They are responsible for creating and customizing online stores, ensuring optimal functionality, user experience, and performance. This role combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of e-commerce and customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and customize Zen Cart-based e-commerce websites according to client specifications and industry best practices.
  • Create and modify templates, themes, and layouts to enhance the website’s aesthetics and user experience.
  • Integrate and customize Zen Cart plugins, modules, and extensions to add new features and functionality to the online store.
  • Ensure compatibility and smooth operation of third-party integrations, such as payment gateways, shipping providers, and marketing tools.
  • Manage and maintain the database structure, ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Optimize database queries and performance to ensure fast loading times and smooth website operation.
  • Conduct thorough testing and debugging to identify and resolve issues, including compatibility problems, broken links, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Implement security measures to protect the website from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Perform regular updates, patches, and maintenance tasks to keep the website running smoothly and securely.
  • Optimize website content and structure for search engines (SEO) to improve visibility and rankings.
  • Implement SEO best practices, including metadata, URL structure, and sitemaps.
  • Monitor website performance, loading times, and user interactions.
  • Identify and resolve performance issues to ensure a responsive and efficient online store.
  • Document code, configurations, and customizations for future reference and team collaboration.
  • Collaborate with clients and project managers to understand their requirements and provide technical guidance and recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working with Zen Cart or similar e-commerce platforms.
  • Knowledge of web security best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
