Job Title:Vocational Counselor/Senior Vocational CounselorDepartment:Day ProgramReports to:Day Program Supervisor(s) and Program DirectorFLSA Status:Non-exemptSalary Range:$16.00+ per hour, depending on experienceSUMMARYVocational Counselors are responsible for providing direct support to Consumers, including training, supervision, and personal care needs, transportation as needed, and the tracking of performance data and other documentation of Day Program clients.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvides constant supervision to clients.Implements all Consumers established goals and objectives.Assists Consumers with personal needs that could be determined to be a barrier to the community and work for that individual.Responsible for learning the ISP programs and medical/emergency information necessary for each client assignment as well as ensuring that all appropriate client paperwork is completed, including daily data collection, case notes, weekly skill charts, and incident reports.Responsible for following the daily schedule, transporting clients safely and promptly to program and activities; leading groups in daily activities; and training assigned clients.Responsible for attending all required staff, clinical, and in-service training meetings. Assists management in developing positive client programming and discussing concerns.In addition, Senior Vocational Counselors help mentor and train junior counselors; carry more responsibility for each shift and assist in preparation of regular client reports.Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily including being physically capable of dealing with challenging physical behaviors which may require using ProACT techniques, walking up to one half hour at a time, standing for the same amount of time, and occasionally running. A valid California drivers’ license is required and approval by the Foundation’s insurance carrier. Employee must be able to participate in daily light physical activities.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEOne year’s experience working with developmentally disabled adults preferred. Mandatory staff trainings will include: CPR and First Aid and Pro ACT Assault Response Techniques and CPR/First Aid certifications. Must have a valid drivers’ license and a good driving record is required, as well as a criminal record clearance from the Department of Justice, and a current physical examination and Tuberculosis test clearance.
