Job Description

Appropriate Housing Matters is a not for profit social enterprise committed to retaining and growing affordable, socially responsible, and appropriate homes in our region. Founded in 1972, as a by product of Co-op Atlantic’s social initiative, our organization has been recognized under the names of our various brands – PJWM, APHL, APHL Services, Peoples Park Tower, etc.

Our name tells you who we are – Appropriate Housing Matters Inc. – just as it should. We deliver with pride, a variety of housing options, where people want to live, that are maintained, well run and safe. We raise the standard of what is defined as “affordable” and make sure that our tenants and residents live in the appropriate housing for them.

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Vice President (VP) of Financial Services to join our team.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and directing the company’s analytical, financial plans and policies. The VP will also report on metrics to optimize growth and development.

The VP will have many responsibilities including:

  • Serve as the financial advisor to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO);
  • Provide strategic financial planning;
  • Lead and manage the budgeting process;
  • Oversee all sides of the organizations accounting operations;
  • Identify and manage key responsibilities including risk management, investment strategies, along with tracking the overall financial health of the organization.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Report directly to the CEO;
  • Participation with the Senior Management Team;
  • Relationship building with external partners and lenders;
  • Financial projections and borrowing arrangement for Client initiatives;
  • Internal financial reporting for the organization.

Other duties and requirements:

  • Manage compliance with local and federal regulatory matters;
  • Proven knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP) and special procedures required by CMHC for co-operatives and not-for-profits;
  • A skilled leader with established change management skills;
  • Communicates consistently with CEO and members of Accounting team;
  • Spearheads special projects;
  • Partner with senior leadership to ensure targets are met.

As the Vice President of Finance, you will play a critical role in shaping the financial strategy of our company. You will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, developing financial plans, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Your leadership skills will be essential in guiding the finance team and collaborating with other departments. Additionally, your business development skills will be instrumental in identifying new growth opportunities. Working conditions

Physical effort: Minimal physical effort

Physical environment: Flexible, minimum 40% office environment, 5% off site

Sensory attention: Frequent use of computer. Ability to communicate effectively via email, phone, Microsoft Teams and other virtual meeting platforms, and in-person

Transportation: Minimal; occasionally within NB and PEI locations

Work Tools: Office space and computer
