The Biologics Manufacturing Centre (BMC) Inc. is a new biomanufacturing facility whose construction was completed in June 2021. The BMC, a not-for-profit organization, supports the expansion of Canada’s biologics manufacturing capacity, ensuring that vaccines and other biologics products can be safely manufactured at home. The BMC is designed to produce biopharmaceuticals such as viral vector, protein subunit and virus-like particle vaccines and other biologics.

The BMC is seeking a Vice President, Finance and Corporate Services to provide strategic and operational financial direction and oversight in line with the BMC's priorities and objectives. 

This executive role acts as an officer of the organization and will be an influential member of the BMC leadership team. The successful candidate will participate in the strategic orientations of the BMC, defining the financial model that will ensure the sustainability of the organization, developing the finance and administrative functions, and supporting the Directors and the Board of Directors in their business decisions. He or she provides leadership in the implementation of business plans and in the articulation, development and implementation of strategies, frameworks, and approaches to optimize its areas of activity. 

Under the supervision of the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President, Finance and Corporate Services will have the following responsibilities:

  • Define and implement BMC's financial framework, including strategic planning, risk management and audits, costing, pricing, financing, monthly forecasts and updates, budgeting, project and accrual accounting, payroll, reporting, internal control, tax planning, contract administration, insurance, etc.
  • Provide strategic and operational financial expertise for financial plans, forecasts, budgets, and reports that support program priorities and requirements. 
  • Establish and maintain corporate governance strategy and policy, appropriate financial control measures supported by policies and procedures and ensures that record keeping systems are maintained in accordance with applicable legislation.
  • Provide leadership and advice on all accounting and financial matters, including the development of business and financial management systems and processes, to the management team, the CEO and the Board of Directors.
  • Lead ERP implementation for the finance module.
  • Develop finance and administrative services functions in line with business needs and organizational growth.
  • Act as a leader and mentor to team members.
  • Direct and oversee administrative services and office management: visitor management, office supplies, meeting management (meals, rooms, etc.), overall administrative support to the organization, internal communications.

You are the person we are looking for if: 

We're looking for you if:

  • You have a bachelor's degree with specialization in accounting or finance, and a professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • You have at least twenty (20) years' experience, including 5 recent years as a finance leader in a manufacturing environment. 
  • You have extensive experience in the following areas: Accounting management (including financial policies, accounting standards and financial systems), financial planning (including forecasting, budgeting and analysis), development of cost and financial models, use of QuickBooks, MS Excel and BI to effectively manipulate data and tables. 
  • You have experience in a manufacturing company and have been a partner to operations.
  • You can identify gaps, develop a function, communicate your vision, and engage your team.
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills in both French and English to ensure good communication with customers, suppliers and partners in different provinces and countries.
  • Knowledge of tax rules governing NPOs is a significant asset.
