Position Summary

The Vice President, Finance and Administration provides strategic leadership and senior management direction for financial and budget services, contract management, risk management, purchasing, advancement, information technology, facilities and capital planning, as well as ancillary services of the College. The Vice President, Finance and Administration is the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of the Board of Governors, responsible for ensuring the financial sustainability and operational efficiency of the College. This role involves developing, implementing, and overseeing financial strategies that support the College’s strategic goals, focusing on continuous improvement and optimization of resources.

The incumbent is accountable for creating and sustaining a high-performance team that provides support services to the College. The incumbent is a senior administrator who participates in the overall management of the College as a member of the President’s senior team and includes supporting the achievement of the objectives of Confederation College’s Strategic Plan.

Additional Requirements

  • Understanding of accounting processes and financial statements; 
  • Strong leadership, communication and decision-making skills with an exceptional capability for resolving issues in an open and consultative manner;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and highly developed oral and written communications skills; and
  • Change management, planning and analytical skills.
  • Teaching and training experience an asset.
Field(s) of Study

A Master’s Degree or equivalent is preferred at the point of hire into the position e.g. MBA , M.Ed. A Professional Accounting designation is required ( CPA )

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to inspire those within the organization;
  • Demonstrated creative thinking and the ability to develop solutions within challenging environments;
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic and business planning;
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and modeling as well as experience in preparing financial statements, management reports and business plans;
  • Demonstrated analytical aptitude and proven problem-solving skills using both professional knowledge and common sense;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of senior managers from different disciplines; 
  • Ability to negotiate and manage complex contracts and relationships;
  • Experience developing and negotiating funding for large, complex capital projects;
  • Ability to work under pressure, against time constraints and in a rapidly changeable environment;
  • Demonstrated expertise with a computerized accounting environment operating within an integrated management information system;
  • Politically and corporately astute;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and optimize collaborative alliances and partnerships;
  • In-depth knowledge of Ontario post-secondary educational environment is an asset; and
  • Experience working with Boards and as part of an executive leadership team.
