Job Description

Together with the CEO, the VP OR Director of Development will work to ensure the current and future financial security of Ottawa’s Jewish Community and its agencies. Broadening the donor base, enhancing relationships with Major Donors, motivating volunteers, and developing new revenue streams are the keys to success. Last year, the Jewish Federation of Ottawa’s Annual Campaign raised just over $4.9M and the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation manages assets of approximately $80M.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Relationship Building, Prospect Development and Personal Fundraising

•Relationship manager for approximately 100 donors – solicitation, stewardship and on-going relationship building. There is an expectation that approximately 30% of time will be spent engaging in 1:1 donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship meetings. 

•Develop an active cadre of Foundation prospects for staff and volunteers – through research, attending events, and on-going discussions with volunteers.

•Increase the number of top donors to the Annual Campaign and broaden the overall donor base. 

The Development leader will be responsible for developing and managing specific fundraising initiatives, including:

•Life & Legacy, a community-wide effort led by the Foundation, to secure and promote bequests and build organizational endowments at the Foundation.

•Lead a team of volunteers and staff to develop and assist with all Foundation fundraising (e.g. Legacy Giving, endowments, integrated solicitations, etc.).

•Develop and implement strategies to secure new donors and additional revenue streams for both the Foundation and Federation’s Annual Campaign.

•Develop and implement a strategy to secure corporate sponsorship.

•Develop and manage stewardship strategies and processes for a variety of giving circles.

•Supervise a team of 4.5 FTE. 

•Responsible for creating and implementing annual work plans for the development team members and contributing to the organization’s annual business plans particularly around revenue generation. 

•Work with Foundation staff and volunteers on engaging donors with a variety of giving vehicles (e.g. new insurance policy) and ensure that relevant committees are appropriately staffed.

•Oversee the adoption and optimization of databases and technologies to advance the work of Federation and the Foundation.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

•A minimum of four years of progressive responsibility in resource development roles, including major gifts – proven track record of major gift solicitation and knowledge of planned giving vehicles as well as fundraising best practices.

•Effective communication – excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.

•Community – a deep knowledge of Judaism and a personal passion for Jewish values and traditions, coupled with a strong desire to share this passion. Knowledge of Jewish Ottawa is an asset.

EDUCATION

•Post secondary education required, Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset.

•Salary will be commensurate with experience. Medical and drug benefits package, free JCC membership, and pension plan available. Free parking on site.

•Title of VP or Director will be offered based on experience in previous positions.
