Posting Summary

Rutgers Health (RH) seeks a Vice Chancellor for Graduate Medical Education & Enterprise-Wide Designated Institutional Official ( DIO ) who will play an integral role in the strategic planning for the continued success of all GME programs across RH, over 1,600 residents and fellows spanning across approximately 130 ACGME accredited residencies and fellowships and CODA -accredited and non-accredited programs, to maximize an optimal GME educational, strategic, and financial structure.

This position requires a dynamic, passionate, and capable leader with a proven track record of collaborative GME leadership, administrative experience, program development, individual scholarship, and educational excellence. In addition, this role requires designing, implementing, and integrating effective programs within and across complex organizations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with RH leadership, leads the strategic discussions and implements the development of world-class education programs and training paradigms across the combined education mission of RH and RWJBH .
Monitors and tracks the accreditation activities of RH as the sponsoring institution.
Chairs the RH GME Committee ( GMEC ) to continue ongoing accreditation, growth review, and planning for RH.
Works with other GME leaders across Rutgers and RWJBH to supervise and administer all ACGME - and CODA -accredited programs and ensure compliance with program requirements. They will execute these responsibilities in collaboration with GMEC and the Health Education Executive Council ( HEEC ).
Serves concurrently as a member of the faculty in good standing of one of the constituent schools of RH, responsible for scholarship, research, teaching, and patient care as appropriate.
Serves as co-chair of the GME Service Line Steering Committee to align strategic growth of service line clinical strategy with GME and health professions educational opportunities.
Works as a critical member of the development of RH HEALS , an innovative new program designed to create collaborative teaching and practices throughout the large interprofessional learning environment at Rutgers.
Assists in leading the restructuring of core GME programs to achieve the vision for academic excellence.
Monitors and tracks the accreditation activities of the sponsoring institution(s). Ensures compliance with the institutional, common, and specialty-subspecialty-specific ACGME program requirements and any other accrediting agencies.
Serves as Chair of the GME Committee ( GMEC ) and coordinates the actions and responsibilities of the GMEC . In collaboration with the GMEC and other GME leadership across RH and RWJBH , will have authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of GME -accredited and non-accredited programs. Oversees the GMEC subcommittees.
Is an active member of the Health Education Executive Council, which serves under the direction of the Joint Committee (co-chaired by the Chancellor and Health System CEO ). The HEEC is a forum for the joint planning and coordination for all UME , GME , and other health professional education programs. In addition, they will also participate in different health education-oriented oversight bodies and committees across RH and RWJBH , as deemed necessary.
Is heavily involved in discussions and planning using GME financial and operational data. Participates in GME annual budget preparations, financial impact analysis of proposed programmatic changes, and development of specialty specific GME academic program profiles across both RH and RWJBH education/training enterprises relevant to any University Hospital committees/bodies.
Supports the nominations of residency and fellowship program directors in consultation with leadership of the hospitals serving as significant teaching sites for the program, the applicable Associate Dean for Education, and the applicable Chair for review and approval by the GMEC .
Communicates directly with the ACGME on matters about overall accreditation and assists residency and fellowship program directors in communications with their Residency Review Committees.
Submits a written executive summary of the Annual Institutional Review ( AIR ), as outlined in the ACGME Institutional Guidelines.
Oversees all program directors regarding GME -related matters in consultation with the applicable Associate Dean for Education or Associate Dean for GME and the relevant Chair.
Engages in professional development applicable to the responsibilities of an educational leader.
Participates in GME annual budget preparations, financial impact analyses of proposed programmatic changes, and specialty specific GME profile development.
Leads strategic initiatives and operationalizes critical programs for faculty development in conjunction with partners at RH and RWJBH , such as CANDOR , VANDERBILT , High-Reliability Organization ( HRO ) curriculum, and diversity curriculum.
Oversees the CAO / GME council and initiatives related to system GME endeavors.
Serves on Office of University Labor Relations team for CIR reviews.
Provides clinical efforts at hospitals where faculty appointment resides, if applicable.
Handles confidential and sensitive GME data regularly.
Supports the university's Workplace Diversity and EEO goals and objectives concerning employment and promotional opportunities.
Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards in its Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and Rutgers' regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Minimum Education and Experience

National reputation for educational accomplishments
Experience as a division chief, vice chair, chair or head of GME , vice dean, senior associate dean, or other foundational leadership role. Developed academic leaders. Mentored and developed junior faculty. Identified, recruited, and retained diverse students, trainees, staff, and faculty.

Track record and passion for GME
Demonstrated progressive experience leading and supporting GME programs in an academic environment, particularly an academic environment with public entity partners.

Certifications/Licenses

Medical degree and board certification
Licensed or eligible for medical licensing in New Jersey.
