1 Temporary - up to 18 months with possible extension
Join the Ontario Science Centre (OSC) – one of Canada's most visited cultural attractions and a world-renowned educational institution that attracts a million visitors a year. The OSC is seeking a UX Designer responsible for leading the development, execution, and evaluation of our usability strategy across multiple channels, from in-person to online platforms. This pivotal role involves establishing and refining the user experience design framework, processes, and metrics to ensure seamless and impactful digital interactions for both visitors and staff.
Effective April 1, 2024, the salary range for this position is $82,217 to $121,155 per year in compliance with AMAPCEO collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to April 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

What can I expect to do in this role?
As a UX Designer, you will:
• Lead the integration of user-centered design principles and practices into all digital initiatives, ensuring they are intuitive, engaging, and effective
• Develop and execute usability strategies and plans to enhance user interaction across various digital platforms
• Plan and lead the development and implementation of usability evaluation techniques, standards, policies, methodologies, and tools
• Provide leadership in user experience projects, including resource acquisition and team management involving both internal staff and external consultants/contractors
• Offer strategic advice and recommendations to business units to align digital transformations with organizational goals and ensure superior service delivery
• Collaborate with all business units, ensuring a unified and visitor-centric approach in both digital and digital-physical experiences as part of the ongoing digital transformation
• Optimize visitor experiences by implementing user experience enhancements that increase engagement and reduce the need for costly redesigns
• Play a critical role in achieving key performance indicators related to digital engagement
How do I qualify?
Technical Knowledge and Skills
• Expertise in leading complex UX design projects using best practices in user-centered design and agile/lean methodologies
• Experience in UX and UI prototyping, creating mock-ups, wireframes, user workflow diagrams, and developing prototypes
• Research, investigate and evaluate a wide range of options for usability implementation, and develop and recommend optimal solutions
• Identify opportunities to improve user experience and user design practices
• Skills in developing and conducting usability testing to meet defined usability metrics
• Technical proficiency in CMS tools (e.g., WordPress), Adobe Creative Suite, front-end frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap), and design test tools (e.g., Figma)
• Knowledge of web standards, W3C, WCAG 2.0 A+ AA, and related accessibility testing methods
• Evaluate new user experience and design services to multiple teams with varying needs, considering project requirements, evidence and analytics, user experience methodologies, service capacity and organizational goals and objectives
Business Outcomes and Process Optimization
• Analyze and evaluate user and business needs, and develop and recommend strategies and user-driven solutions
• Prioritize and negotiate to deliver complex projects from start to completion
• Establish work priorities and apply problem-solving techniques in issue resolution
• Demonstrated ability to align UX strategies with business visions, missions, and objectives
• Strong capability in managing cross-functional teams to support user-centric digital solutions
• Proficient in relationship management with diverse user groups to enhance UX capacity
Leadership and Project Management
• Proven track record in project leadership, translating business requirements into practical UX features
• Experience in resource management, including leading teams and coordinating project resources effectively
• Plan, integrate and deliver support testing, assessing and recommending steps to neutralize and mitigate risks
• Provide direction, advice, technical guidance and coaching to project team members and foster teamwork
Communication, Negotiation and Partnerships
• Strong commitment to customer service excellence, teamwork and collaboration.
• You communicate with structure and clarity to elicit cooperation and manage expectations
• Strong communications, consultation, facilitation and negotiation skills to participate in team discussions, make solution recommendations and document/explain work
• Responsive to change and the needs of clients, team members and partners
• Prepare and present planning documents, reports, recommendations, issues and status briefings, prepare and edit project and user testing documentation
