Aviva Canada are now recruiting for a Renewable Energy Underwriter to join our successful GCS Programs Team. We are looking to expand our market leading team to further our presence in the Renewable Energy market, our broker relations and expand our growth targets while maintaining service levels and profitability.

You will be part of a dynamic and collaborative team of experienced underwriters. This role will be focused on profit-oriented underwriting of Renewable Energy risks under construction and in operational accounts. We are ideally looking for an individual who has experience in renewable energy underwriting or broking and supporting the energy transition. We are open to candidates who can demonstrate a passion for Renewables and a willingness to work hard.

What you'll do

  1. Support the team to profitably develop the Renewable Energy portfolio, meeting the financial goals, maintain and expand Aviva’s footprint in the market.
  2. Underwriting Canadian Renewable Energy business (Onshore Wind, Solar and BESS) construction and operational risks in accordance with Aviva’s process, procedures, business philosophy and appetite.
  3. Creating/managing relationships with brokers & customers
  4. Play an active role in Aviva’s Renewable Energy community in terms of knowledge sharing, training, and special projects.
  5. Working with the wider Renewable Energy & Engineering team on ad hoc tasks as required
  6. Strong technical expertise within the segment
  7. Create and maintain external presence and market confidence by participating in broker/client events and industry conferences.
  8. Pipeline Management. Develops an external network of relationships to support new business growth.
  9. Develop and maintain both internal and external relationships to deliver exceptional broker and customer service.
  10. May identify and propose changes to policy wordings/manuscript wording and underwriting guidelines as appropriate.
  11. Ensures standards are met and the governance framework adhered to in order to maintain service levels.
  12. Properly maintain underwriting documentation, ensure high data quality in underwriting file
  13. Acts as a technical referral point and provides coaching to program underwriters, sharing learning and best practice in order to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the team.
  14. Responsible for leading initiatives for service and process improvements by acting on feedback from customers.
  15. Proactive in the development of own capability to enhance individual and team performance.
  16. Shares ideas with manager, peers and engages team members to fully work through options.
  17. Proactive in the development of own capability to enhance individual and team performance.

What you'll bring

8 years’ experience in Underwriting Energy P&C and Construction.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and coordinate with internal and external partners.

Proficiency in applying highly specialized knowledge and expertise of complex risks for large complex programs.

Provides knowledge and support for less senior UWs using coaching skills and facilitation.

Strong knowledge of underwriting, pricing, and product in various segments.

Working knowledge of other functional areas (i.e., Claims, Risk Management, Accounting, etc.).

Strong level of understanding of underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manual information, statuary constraints, and computer workflow procedures

Ability to develop long-term relationships with brokers and customers.

Ability to work with internal business partners to deliver a great broker and customer experience.

Ability to be self-motivated and proactively pursue potential business opportunities with brokers and customers.

Ability to listen to broker and customer needs to meet them effectively and efficiently.

Strong negotiation and influencing skills.

Advanced pipeline management/sales consultation skills.
