Job Description

We are currently searching for a Trenchless Designer in our Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, or Markhamoffice.

The successful candidate will have experience in the design and construction of trenchless installation projects that may include horizontal directional drilling, or microtunnelling and/or larger diameter casing/pipe installations. You will join a technically exceptional team of engineers, providing services to municipal sowners and contractors. You will provide technical expertise and project coordination while demonstrating resourcefulness, and adaptability in your role. You will have hands-on involvement in preparing proposals, advancing projects through the concept, design and construction phases, including intermittent site visits. You will support projects across Canada working with teams in our regional offices.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Design of trenchless installations involving horizontal directional drilling, or microtunnelling, and/or large diameter casing installations from concept to design to construction.
• Supporting trenchless projects and pursuits across Western Canada.
• Completing designs, technical reports, cost estimates, technical specifications and construction contract documents for work completed independently or by others through direct supervision.
• Executing tenders, constructability assessments, contract administration, and inspection of municipal infrastructure and trenchless projects.
• Actively building and maintaining relationships with clients, colleagues, suppliers, contractors, other consultants, government administrators for the benefit of clients, projects and business development.
• Performing Quality Assurance and Quality Control reviews for other Engineers of Record on project deliverables.
• Supporting the Project Manager by liaising with the client, managing scope, schedule and budgets.
• Supporting proposal submissions by preparing key content such as project understanding, methodology, team organization and fees.

Job Requirements

What you will bring:
• Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university or diploma in Civil Engineering Technology for an accredited technical college
• Registered, or eligible for registration, with APEGA or EGBC within six months of hire. Registered, or eligible for registration with ASET or ASTTBC within six months of hire.
• 5+ years of experience in trenchless design and construction focusing of new installation projects such as horizontal directional drilling, or microtunnelling (MTBM), and/or large diameter casing/pipe installations – mostly for municipal clients.
• Good technical acumen with an understanding of applicable good practices, manual of practices, and industry accepted standards for the design of trenchless installations.
• Basic understanding of the design and construction of municipal pipe infrastructure including water, sanitary and storm utilities.
• Some experience in the field inspection, monitoring and administration of trenchless construction.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, Microsoft Office Suite, VisiSpecs.
• Valid driver’s license and can travel within Canada.
