ABOUT THE ROLE TransAlta is currently looking to hire a Trader, reporting directly to the Manager, Trading and Mid-Marketing. This position is core to the East Term desk progress in driving speculative trading ideas and risk. This role will focus on speculative power, gas, and options strategies in cash/term markets through the prompt 18 months. This a full-time salaried position located at our new head office in Downtown Calgary – TransAlta Place (Keynote One). We are willing to consider to relocation services for the right candidate. WHAT YOU WILL DO Maintaining a strategic focus on Eastern Power Markets Achieving an annual profit and loss target of $2-$5 million Managing a Value at Risk (VaR) allocation of up to $1 million Conducting analysis for new business lines and structured transactions Conducting fundamental research and generating trade ideas in power and gas markets Providing backup support for Manager as needed WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU Preferred bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or Mathematics Over 5 years of pertinent market and trading experience Profound understanding of Eastern ISO markets, power generation fundamentals, fuels, FTRs/congestion Aptitude for rapid information processing and decision-making Proven capability to articulate strategy, risk assessment, and deal execution to colleagues and leadership Demonstrated efficiency in time management for research, analysis, and continuous professional growth Additional Requirements The successful candidate wil be subject to a background check as a condition of their offer of employment  WHAT WE OFFER We offer our employees comprehensive and flexible benefits, competitive compensation, annual incentives, and a rewards program.
