Duties

1. Participates as a member of a project team.

2. Undertakes a broad spectrum of destination development projects related to tourism and economic development.

3. Research sport tourism event opportunities, engage with sport event organizations and engage in sport tourism event attraction.

4. Performs detailed analysis of tourism and economic development opportunities, prepares and implements related strategic and promotional plans.

5. Performs detailed analysis and work associated with the completion of research projects, funding applications, and feasibility studies.

6. Initiates and conducts discussions and negotiations with the private and public sectors regarding tourism and economic development opportunities.

7. Provides information to prospective entrepreneurs, agencies and the community on matters relating to tourism and economic development opportunities.

8. Identifies and promotes improvement to and expansion of existing businesses or industries.

9. Completes projects jointly undertaken by the City and provincial or federal levels of government, or other partners, as assigned.

10. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• Degree in economics, business administration, or a related field along with three years’ experience in economic or industrial development; or

• Diploma in business administration, or a related field along with five years’ experience in economic or industrial development

Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to function and contribute as an effective team member and to work independently

• Must have a demonstrated ability to work with entrepreneurs and be knowledgeable of the relevant provincial legislation regarding municipal economic development;

• Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing

• Must be proficient in the use of computers and current related software

• Familiarity with markets and marketing, tourism and economic development opportunities

• Ability to exercise independent judgement when dealing with confidential or sensitive issues

• Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
