Technical Project Manager, Industrialization

Sanctuary AI

Job Overview

Your New Role and Team

Sanctuary, a world leader in building AI-based control systems for humanoid robots,is looking to hire an Expert Industrialization Engineer. Reporting to the Industrialization Manager, you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of the design, architecture, and implementation of our current robotic systems, and help shape future versions of our general-purpose robots.

The best candidates for this role have excellent skills in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA), and hands-on experience with optimizing robotics components for large-scale manufacturing. You'll be a valued contributor as you bridge the gap between R&D and mass production, ensuring product designs are cost-effective, manufacturable, and scalable. You will also collaborate with other team members to create, integrate, and scale the world's most capable anthropomorphic robotic systems.

Our Success Criteria

  • Design Adaptation for Manufacturability: Apply DFM and DFA principles to existing designs to reduce manufacturing complexity, enhance reliability, and improve cost-effectiveness without compromising product quality or performance. Analyze and redesign components and assemblies for mass production, selecting suitable materials and proposing changes to enhance manufacturability. Collaborate with R&D engineers to modify designs to suit production requirements better.
  • Production Transition Management: Manage the transition of robotics products from prototype stages to full-scale production, ensuring designs are fully validated and ready for manufacturing. Coordinate the design and development of tooling, jigs, and fixtures required for manufacturing the redesigned components. Oversee the validation process of redesigned components through prototyping and testing, ensuring they meet all operational requirements.
  • Project Coordination and Communication: Act as the technical liaison between R&D, engineering teams, and the production facility to ensure clear communication and understanding of manufacturing capabilities and constraints. Monitor the progress of projects focused on the industrialization of new products, maintaining schedules, and ensuring deliverables are met on time. Maintain detailed documentation of design changes, test results, and manufacturing process adjustments. Provide regular updates to key stakeholders on project status and milestones.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure all redesigned components adhere to the necessary quality standards and comply with industry regulations. Gather feedback from manufacturing and quality assurance teams to further refine product designs and processes.
  • Supplier Collaboration: Work with suppliers and Contract Manufacturers to ensure materials and component purchases meet the technical specifications of redesigned parts. Coordinate with the supply chain team to ensure the availability and timely delivery of materials suited for the redesigned components.

Your Experience

Qualifications

  • Diploma/Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, engineering physics, a related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in applying DFM and DFA principles.
  • Experience designing complex moving mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with engineering for reliability.
  • Proven track record of working through the complete life cycle of building and manufacturing high-performance electromechanical assemblies.

Skills

  • Familiarity with all stages of the manufacturing process, engineering drawings, tolerancing, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and test in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to complete specification and analysis of gears, actuators, bearings, etc.
  • Knowledge of designing automated manufacturing machines and assembly tools.
  • Proficiency in prototyping, robotics, mechatronics, machining, and 3D printing.
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing documentation, drawings, and GD&T.
  • Experience coordinating with suppliers to ensure material and component quality and timely delivery.
  • Experience interacting with Tier 1 Contract Manufacturers.
  • A consistently positive attitude and a willingness to do whatever it takes to create robust solutions to complex problems.
  • Optimistic listening and conflict resolution capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others without authority.
  • Eager to take on new challenges with tenacity and positivity.
  • Patience, persistence, and attention to detail when resolving performance issues.
