Job Description

Technical Advisor, Electricity Policy Reports to Manager, Distribution & Mutual Assistance Our vision is to be the best trade association. Electricity Canada members generate, transmit, and distribute electrical energy to industrial, commercial, residential, and institutional customers across Canada. Members include integrated electric utilities, independent power producers, transmission and distribution companies, power marketers, manufacturers and suppliers of materials, technology, and services. Our members, team, excellence, leadership, and innovation. This permanent hybrid position requires the successful candidate to work in the downtown Ottawa office two days a week . This mid level position requires a background in energy policy gained through a combination of education and work experience. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working on policy issues related to electricity distribution, including developments related to smart-grid technologies, distributed energy resources/microgrids, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, advanced metering, telecommunication spectrum allocations, distribution standards, among others. Reporting to the Manager of Distribution & Mutual Assistance, the successful candidate will work dynamically to lead the activities of the assigned member committees, including technical submissions to and interactions with government and other external bodies. This includes working with the committee leadership, facilitating meetings/video calls, and undertaking post-meeting actions to implement key decisions. Facilitate technical discussions with members and external stakeholders. Research / Technical Submissions Conduct desktop research related to distribution sector developments at the sub-national, national, and international levels to support member discussions, including electric vehicle charging infrastructure and distribution system integration readiness, growth of distributed solar power, and emerging Distribution System Operator (DSO) models and implications for member companies. Work with member committees on technical submissions on distribution issues, including advanced metering, EV charging infrastructure, distributed energy integration, microgrids, storage, power quality/harmonics standards, grid resiliency, joint use infrastructure, 5G deployment, telecommunication, and network capacity constraints. Assist with responses to government requests for capacity building and other proposals and information. Help build relationships with key stakeholders, including the EV infrastructure community (e.g., Administrative University degree and/or equivalent experience related to electricity/energy policy. Minimum of 3 years of work experience working in government, industry, or a trade association. Must be able to work out of the Electricity Canada office for at least two days a week.
