Summary of the Role:

Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, the Systems Administrator supports and optimizes the Corporate IT infrastructure, spanning multiple offices and job sites. This role involves the design, deployment, management, and support of servers, storage solutions, networking, and security systems. Responsibilities include project management, performance tuning, security tasks, and technical support for infrastructure-related issues escalated from the Helpdesk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Design and Support: Design, deploy, and support servers, storage solutions, network infrastructure, security systems, and backup and recovery plans.
  • Data Management: Manage file systems and disk space; assist with backup and recovery services.
  • Email and Communication Systems: Administer Exchange and other email servers, ensuring backups, restores, and maintenance activities are performed and verified.
  • Data Security: Implement and support data security strategies including encryption, authentication, antivirus, spam filtering, and access control.
  • Network Management: Ensure network infrastructure uptime, manage firewalls, and support all data communication.
  • System Monitoring: Monitor system components to ensure integrity and availability; review logs and scheduled tasks.
  • Security Monitoring and Response: Respond to security vulnerabilities, conduct threat analysis, implement security improvements, and perform patch management.
  • System Maintenance: Apply OS updates, upgrade administrative tools, and configure new services.
  • Disaster Recovery: Prepare contingency plans for service recovery and contribute to disaster recovery procedures.
  • Advanced Problem Solving: Perform analysis and research to formulate technology solutions for complex business needs.
  • Change Management: Develop and coordinate plans for implementing new services and upgrades.
  • Technology Evaluation: Investigate and pilot new technology to enhance IT infrastructure.
  • Capacity Planning: Manage infrastructure capacity planning and performance monitoring.
  • Project Management: Plan, schedule, and monitor projects and tasks efficiently.
  • System Audits: Perform routine audits of systems and software.
  • Scripting: Write scripts to automate tasks and streamline processes.
  • Technical Support: Provide support for escalated Helpdesk issues and act as a technical lead for helpdesk/field technicians.
  • Documentation: Maintain operational support documentation, including network diagrams, configuration information, and procedures.
  • Vendor Liaison: Communicate with vendors and contracted service providers.
  • After-Hours Support: Participate in after-hours and weekend maintenance and problem resolution as required.
  • Travel: Occasional travel to branch offices and job sites as needed.

Key Requirements, Experience and Skills:

  • Completion of a college diploma or university degree in Computer Science, Network Administration, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of storage solutions, disaster recovery, and backup strategies.
  • Strong understanding of IT security principles and practices.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco) are an asset.
  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in IT infrastructure.
  • Experience with modern technologies and best practices in IT infrastructure, including cloud services, virtualization, and automation.
  • Proficiency in Windows Server environments (Windows Server 2016+), Active Directory, and Microsoft Exchange.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Networking experience, including routing, VLANs, switching, firewalls, and wireless.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
