Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada (Hybrid)
We are looking for a System Design Specialist Intern t o join us for an 8-12 month internship at our Burnaby office.
The successful candidate will help on multiple project activities and also work on some specific initiatives such as script development, KPI updates and automation of certain tasks/processes.
This also provides an opportunity to have a trained intern for future roles within the department.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Must be able to develop, implement and maintain tools and scripts (MS VB, DOORS dxl, etc.), to assist Systems engineers in day-to-day activities
  • Must be able to perform technical/engineering analysis as required for systems design
  • Responsible for assisting other members of the assigned project team in miscellaneous requirement specification and management activities, for example: a) Importing contract requirements and other documents into IBM Rational DOORS; b) Trace customer contract requirements to system level and/or lower level requirements; c) Prepare documentation for configuration management and customer delivery purposes following established processes; d) Create or modify existing train control system and subsystem requirement specifications, interface requirements & systems design descriptions by analyzing, decomposing, modelling & refining customer requirements
  • Must be able to accurately reports work progress and estimates to complete the assigned work
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree Program in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • Software and scripting knowledge in C/C++ and Python
  • Able to work hybrid full time hours (40 hours) on the start date; for the agreed work term
  • Strong planning and organization skills
  • Being able to learn independently and take initiative
  • Mathematical and engineering analysis skills
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Candidate should be working towards a Master's degree in System, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or similar
  • Rail signalling, CBTC, and knowledge of specification-driven systems design (as it applies to computer systems with both hardware & software operations)
Salary Range: $41,600-$49,920
