SUMMARY Reporting to the Corporate Director of Sustainability, the Sustainability Specialist is primarily responsible for Compiling Corporate wide Sustainability data as well as environmental regulatory compliance in British Columbia. The incumbent identifies priorities, develops strategies and programs to ensure continuous improvement in the Companys environmental performance. This role requires communication with the operations, safety, quality, engineering, supply chain and finance departments to ensure that environmental considerations are appropriately prioritized through all functional groups. WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO WILL: Collect, verify, and compile corporate sustainability data and ensure the Sustainability Database is up to date and all contributors provide data and correct documentation. Prepare vendor sustainability auditing information and documentation. Follow up on sourcing and implementation of Ethical Sourcing Policies Follow up on sustainability initiative and project in Vancouver Manage regulatory and permitting processes, ensuring environmental permits are maintained and complied with by Vancouver Refinery; Work with regulatory agencies at Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels, acting as a main liaison with regulators in British Columbia; Oversee and standardize the environmental functions of the sites: including establishing policies and standards, establishing directives and guidance, setting objectives and targets, and developing systems and measures that appropriately assess performance. Participate in developing and implementing a Environmental Management System including Environmental Risk assessment, and compliance system demonstrate compliance with the regulatory requirements and environmental commitments and conditions. Lead environmental and sustainability projects that are achieving or increasing environmental compliance and resource conservation, disposal cost reduction and/or value-added management of by-products, being the point of liaison with internal stakeholders including Capex support; Prepare and submit Monthly, Quarterly and Annual reports: Waste water discharges and WWTP regulatory compliance; Air emissions assertion; GHG compliance with regards to provincial and federal regulations; NPRI (national Pollutant Release Inventory) Others as required. Ensure that Statistics Canada’s required surveys for environmental compliance, water usage and electricity usage are properly filled and submitted. Meet, maintain, develop schedules and budgets related to regulatory activities; WHAT YOU NEED TO JOIN THE TEAM: Degree in Environmental Engineering or other applicable post- secondary education (chemistry, mechanics, industrial, or environmental); A minimum of 5-year experience in Environmental/Sustainability Related Job; Analytical with the ability to prepare accurate reports, break down key trends and provide the information necessary to implement an action plan Must have knowledge of: Air Contaminants Emissions including GHG assertion and reporting, Air Monitoring directives assertion and reporting, stack testing and reporting, NPRI reporting; Knowledge and application of applicable federal, provincial, municipal standards and regulatory compliance requirements. Strong regulatory liaison skills with officers from agencies at Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels. Thorough knowledge of regulatory processes with project management skills; Experience in proposal preparation, environmental site assessments, permitting, and reporting. Familiarity with: Recycling regulation including Packaging materials recycling regulation; Attention to detail, working well independently and being a team player are essential; Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines; High inter-personal and communication skills; High proficiency with English language, written and verbal; Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
