Job Description

DescriptionPurposeReporting to the Manager, Mechanical, the Supervisor is an integral member of the Rocky Mountaineer Operations and Mechanical team. The Supervisor provides oversight to the front line / skilled trades teams. The Supervisor, Mechanical, will also be responsible for executing the operating plan, managing front line trades teams, and assisting in project management for capital programs.This position is deemed Safety Critical and pre-employment testing will be required. Final candidates must successfully pass a safety critical medical exam and will undergo medical monitoring as prescribed by Transport Canada. This position requires you to periodically access an active railway area where impaired performance could result in a significant incident affecting the health and safety of team members, guests, the public, property, or the environment.Compensation The base salary offered for this role is $82,000 - $93,000 per annum and can vary based on job-related expertise, qualifications, experience and internal equity. Eligible for Rocky Mountaineer’s Bonus Program Rocky Mountaineer supports our team members’ health and wellness by providing a comprehensive medical plan with 100% employer paid premiums, some of which includes:Short term disability, long term disability, and Accidental Death & Dismemberment policyTravel emergency assistanceVacation time, sick time, and company holiday payUp to 5% RRSP and/or TSFA matchTwo complimentary annual train tickets after first year of employmentKey Areas of AccountabilityEngage and lead the frontline mechanical teamMonitor and manage the workload of the frontline mechanical team, including the development of metrics to monitor efficiencyInspect work done and validate quality of workmanship through work order completion processesIdentify areas of improvement and ensure team member training is maintained, recommending new training accordinglyWork collaboratively with team members to resolve issues in a timely and effective mannerFacilitate goal planning and goal management for team membersResponsible for hiring, assessing performance, conducting investigations and exercising corrective action plans for workplace incidentsDevelop meaningful relationships among, internal partners, external suppliers, and contractorsEnsure compliance with regulatory requirementsConduct safety and performance auditsDeliver site specific safety orientations to team members and partnersExecute maintenance and capital project deliverablesto ensure asset reliabilityOrganize, facilitate, and document maintenance, provisioning, and servicing work ordersDevelop, execute, and manage SOPsSafetyComply with Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR), General Operating Instructions (GOI), Federal Railroad Association (FRA), and all other safety policies, procedures, and rulesExecute incident reporting processes ensuring the safety and security of team members, guests, and contractors are met in compliance with the Safety Management System (SMS)Perform safety and performance audits on employees and contractorsMeet or exceed safety and security deliverablesMaintain basic first aid certification provided by Rocky MountaineerOperationsExecute the RM Maintenance Vision and Operating PlanLead operations and mechanical requirements in the Operations CentreEnsure safe movement of all RM equipmentSupport supply chain initiatives throughout the RM networkSupport operational and equipment availability requirementsRequired to train for and perform switching dutiesMechanicalSuccessfully execute the RM Maintenance VisionRequired to train in equipment operating skills including forklifts, boom lifts, jacks, drop tables, etc.Ability to support the mechanical team when troubleshooting equipment (ex. reading, understanding and interpreting schematics and manuals)Responsible for the safety and performance of all mechanical team members, contractors, and equipment throughout the RM networkSupport capital and operational project management processesEnsure training records for RM team members are up to dateQualificationsEducation, Certification, LicensesOperational understanding of tradesRelevant mechanical or technical certifications or trade school education is an assetA minimum of 2 years of progressive supervisory experience in a mechanical maintenance or construction environmentSecondary School Diploma or equivalentValid Class 5 Driver’s Licenseor equivalentQualification and/or proven knowledge in safe heavy equipment operations such as forklifts, cranes, etc.Previous qualification under CROR Operating Rules is an assetExperience/Skills Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team of skilled trades workers Attention to detail with a desire to maintain brand standardsProject management/coordination experience an assetAbility to troubleshoot across a variety of different mechanical and electrical systems is an assetEffective time management and problem-solving skillsRailroad experience is an assetAble to take personal accountabilityProficient in MS Office and computer savvyGood communication and leadership skillsProven ability to work cross-functionallyFirst Aid Level 1 Certification is an assetRail industrial site that requires walking and sitting throughout the day24/7 operation that may require varied work schedulesDuring our operating season from mid-April to mid-October you will be working 4 on 3 off, 3 on 4 off schedule of days and nights.
