What Are We Looking For?

Reporting to the Manager Field Operations, the Supervisor Field Operations will be responsible for overseeing the planning, scheduling, and coordinating of all distribution operations, construction, and asset management work in a safe and timely manner. The Supervisor Field Operations will be responsible for leading and supervising a strong Operations team through effective leadership, communication, coaching, planning, and organization. Please note this position may be based in either Coaldale or Taber, AB

Duties and Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  1. Leadership:
    • Build an effective team that performs and assists in the construction, operations, and maintenance of the distribution system.
    • Responsible for all elements of employee relations, including hiring, training, performance appraisals, terminations, and resolving labour relations issues.
    • Ensure all direct reports (including apprentices) receive proper training and development opportunities, sign Blue Book task sheets, identify training requirements, and review or manage individual performance on a regular basis.
  2. Field Operations:
    • Oversee the efficient utilization of resources to meet customer requirements.
    • Ensure adequate resourcing levels through time approval, vacation/leave requests, and on-call resourcing.
    • Approve and maintain the call schedule.
    • Provide direction and communication to staff on changes to standards, practices, and policies.
    • Prioritize, schedule, and complete work within required timelines in consultation with Supervisor Projects, Supervisor Field Scheduling, and Supervisor Dispatch.
    • Work with staff to ensure the electrical distribution system and all buildings/vehicles are kept safe and reliable.
    • Assist the Manager Field Operations in the management of capital and operating budgets.
    • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with local customers, landowners, business owners, and community leaders.
    • Complete required reports for the Manager Field Operations.
    • Ensure employees adhere to work methods, safe work practices/policies; this includes investigating incidents or accidents and following up as required.
    • Complete monthly site observations to ensure work is completed in a safe manner and that quality standards are adhered to.
    • Special projects and other duties as required.

What will you bring to the Role?

• Proven leadership skills in operations, construction, safety, planning, organization, building relationships, conflict resolution, and the ability to deliver customer satisfaction.
• Proven ability to build relationships and lead effective teams.
• Ability to interpret and explain FortisAlberta safe work practices, safety regulations, and external regulations.
• Demonstrated writing abilities, organizational skills, competency with intermediate business computer applications (i.e., Microsoft Office; familiarity with SAP or mobile/field work applications would be an asset).
• Working knowledge of FortisAlberta’s operations and construction practices and processes.

Qualifications we are looking for:

• Journeyman Power Line Technician, and 7 years of experience with the construction and operation of an electric distribution system are required.
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive supervisory/leadership experience is required.
• Project and/or budget management experience would be an asset.
• Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be an asset.

Special Conditions:

• Frequent travel or overnight absences may be required.
• Valid Class 5 driver's permit.
