Candidate Profile:

The Structural Restoration Engineer will assist our team in the evaluation, assessment, and the restoration of existing commercial and industrial structures. The successful candidate is comfortable working with clients, communicating with contractors and confident working on active construction sites. A commitment to providing high responsive and first-rate client service is essential, as is the technical excellence to deliver practical, creative solutions. An inquisitive and passionate outlook, a focused worker who is readily assumes responsibility, and a team player who has the ability to work independently yet collaboratively are traits that are considered essential for this role. Previous experience in structural restoration and construction projects are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site assessment and evaluation of existing buildings and structures
  • Formulate building science and structural rehabilitation programs
  • Contract administration including preparation of bidding documents/specifications and drawings
  • Preparation of condition assessment reports and written recommendations
  • Tendering projects to suitable contractors
  • Construction review and documentation

Professional Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor ’ s or Master ’ s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university, specialized coursework in structural engineering is considered an asset.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA.

Experience:

  • 0-3 years of post-education experience in structural engineering or construction, with an understanding of structural restoration and building science.
  • Previous experience in an engineering or construction environment

Skills:

  • Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to develop technical reports, letters, and emails.
  • Exceptional customer service, organizational, time-management, and project management skills.
  • Self-motivated, fast learner with the desire to continually learn and grow.
  • Working knowledge of SketchUp, Bluebeam Revu, and MS Office Suite programs.
  • Capable of working on active construction sites, including interacting with contractors and clients, and effective use of written and verbal communications onsite.
  • Comfortable working on-site in industrial facilities, including associated safety requirements and potential exposure to process and construction -related dust, noise, and fumes. Comfortable with working at heights and within confined spaces.
  • Ability to conceptualize design with an understanding of constructability. This includes the ability to hand sketch and effectively communicate structural details.
  • Applied knowledge in modern construction materials (including protective coatings and waterproofing ) , methods and techniques of design, construction, installation and maintenance of concrete structures.
  • Additional training in CSTS, Confined Spaces, and Fall Protection will be required and provided.
  • Occasional travel and a personal vehicle will be required.
