Job Description

A little bit about the role:

The Strategic Sourcing Manager will join ORBCOMM as an individual contributor to Lead NPI and Transition projects with EMS suppliers, reporting to the Senior Director, Strategic Sourcing. This person is expected to lead company-wide objectives by leveraging world-class EMS suppliers for high-quality, low-cost supply lines of finish goods and implement global Sourcing contracts to affect corporate-wide objectives.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the EMS Supplier quote process, the Supplier selection and award process.
  • Lead the commercial aspect of NPI Sourcing Projects, accountable for Phase Gate deliverables.
  • As part of the NPI quote process, direct the Sourcing of the most competitively priced: BOM, tooling/fixtures, Compliance, Samples, NRE and design services.
  • Lead cost-cutting and streamlining programs such as implementing rapid replenishment programs (VMI or consignment programs).
  • Lead Should Cost and Should Take analytics to attain the best marketplace value.
  • Negotiate and implement Supplier Agreements (Development Supply Agreements, SOWs, Binding Agreements and Pull System Agreements).
  • Lead supplier performance clause recourse as needed (e.g. Warranty, Delivery etc....).
  • Develop and facilitate major supplier relationships.
  • Lead cross-functional team on supplier Common Assessments Audits to evaluate process capabilities, manufacturing capacity, QC procedures, technology leadership, managerial and financial stability.
  • Engage in early Supplier involvement initiatives to help further the design of new Products.
  • Leverage existing suppliers for maximum benefit upon awarding NPI, Transitions and Sustaining projects gaining incremental benefits of cost and delivery terms for ORBCOMM.
  • Establish and manage aggressive cost reduction programs for assigned responsibilities.
  • Create and maintain KPIs to track performance trends.
  • Pull spend data from various systems, perform data analysis in Excel, and make recommendations through created PPT presentations to Senior Leaders.
  • Develop and leverage relationships with internal customers through open communication and follow-up.
  • Promote synergism between Sourcing, Research and Development Engineering, Design Engineering, through EMS Manufacturing to drive products down faster learning curves.
  • Solicit the input of all Sourcing personnel (Forecast, Buying, SIOP etc…) in negotiating both EMS and key Commodity Supplier partnerships, devising objectives and strategies.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Preferred Supplier List.
  • International and domestic travel required; may lead morning and late-night calls as needed with global team.
  • Perform Day-to-Day requirements of the job.


Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business or Engineering
  • 10+ years Supply Chain experience with progressive responsibility
  • High Business acumen and attention to detail
  • International travel and sourcing experience, a foreign language knowledge is helpful.
  • Green Belt Certification


Additional Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, preferably an MBA in Business
  • Professional Certification in Sourcing Management (example CPM/CPSM and/or APICS)
  • Wide sourcing experience with mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronics exposure desired
  • Experience dealing with EMS and Contract Manufacturers
  • Strong contract negotiation skills with precise written communication
  • Excellent teaming abilities
  • Strong communication and leadership skills dealing with a global cross-functional team.
  • Aptitude to work comfortably in a highly matrix organizational environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments with various deadlines.
  • Experience implementing rapid replenishment programs (VMI or consignment programs)
