Our Software Engineering team is central to the success of Jobber - focused on creating software that delivers value to tens of thousands of users around the world. The Business Insights team focuses on empowering our Service Providers to make better decisions by providing them with data and insights.
Service Providers want to run successful businesses, but as they grow it becomes challenging to understand how they are doing. Service Providers want to know that work is being sold, delivered, and paid for appropriately, which becomes very time consuming when manually collecting and analyzing data. That’s where we come in!
The role:
As a
Staff Software Engineer
on our SC Intake team you will play an essential part in bridging the gap between Jobber’s customers (SPs) and their customers (SCs). You will build and iterate on impactful features, including Online Booking and a suite of marketing tools, to help home service businesses win more work. You will play a core part in working with Product and Design to shape the team’s roadmap, while supporting fellow engineers in delivering value early and often.

As a Staff Software Engineer you will:
Work with the team to ideate, design, implement, and deliver impactful features iteratively to our customers
Work with Product and Design to determine the shape and content of our roadmap looking ahead
Identify and spearhead larger initiatives that are group-wide (or even department-wide) in scope
Participate in code review and testing
Drive engineering solutions to have consistent practices and reusable code
Facilitate group discussions to determine the best solution to our customer’s problems
Research, communicate, and advocate for the use of best practices within your team’s domain
Breakdown and explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences
Mentor and coach junior teammates, helping them elevate their skills and careers
To be successful, you should have:
A demonstrated level of software engineering experience on a full stack-focused team
A proven track record of building highly scalable software
Experience leading a team or a project and acting as a technical leader
Excellent collaboration skills and an impeccable ability to communicate and listen to others
Strong software design and architecture skills
Enthusiasm for delivering value early and often to customers
Ability to ask a lot of questions, seek out new information and remain open to new ideas and perspectives
Ability to self serve, take initiative and find resources necessary to deliver a project or solve a problem
Impeccable communication skills and a team player attitude
Attention to quality and proven experience writing automated tests
Strong knowledge of or experience with React
Ability to navigate ambiguity/uncertainty and prioritize accordingly
Passion for learning and continuous growth
It would be really great (but not a deal-breaker) if you had:
Experience with building GraphQL systems
Experience with cloud infrastructure and tooling
Experience integrating third-party products
Our development stack:
React, React Native, TypeScript, GraphQL API layer, and Ruby on Rails on AWS. If you have experience with some or most of these technologies, that’s great. We care more about your openness and ability to learn new tools.
