Job Description

Database manager, Database Operations is responsible for the oversight, development and implementation of standards, strategies, objectives and technology plans for the company’s database infrastructure and management.

Essential Functions/ Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of professionals to design and develop and operate Oracle and Mongo database systems.
  • Master HA and uptime of our OLTP system.
  • Have capacity to drive the team with proactive mentality.
  • Serve as a 24/7 escalation point for the team and coordinate remediation efforts for identified issues.
  • Provide guidance to database team on database structures and features.
  • Enhance standard procedures to enhance scalability and performance of existing database architecture.
  • Troubleshoot complex database issues in accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain and regularly test database disaster recovery procedures to ensure continuous availability and speedy recovery.
  • Plan and supervise installation, migration and upgrade of databases.
  • Ensure OS and Database security patches are validated and applied in accordance with company policy.
  • Prepare reports on database scalability and capacity planning as needed.
  • Identify and resolve database issues related to performance and capacity.
  • Ensure completion and documentation of daily health check procedures.
  • Daily review of OEM\Nagios alerts, backup and restore, audit reports. Prepare updates for upper management in case of abnormalities.
  • Oversee day-to-day activities of database team.
  • Ensure daily activity time tracking is completed. Prepare monthly management reports on team time allocation and trending.
  • Develop best practices for performance and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure database management and maintenance tasks are performed effectively.
  • Perform regular audits to ensure data integrity and quality.
  • Perform regular security audits.
  • Provide regular status updates to senior management.
  • Stay updated with new database technologies and analyze such technologies to bring into scope of existing infrastructure.

Supervisory Responsibility

Interviews, hires and trains database operations staff members. Sets goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with company's plans and vision. Organizes workflow and ensures that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks. Monitors employee productivity and providing constructive feedback and coaching.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience with Oracle DB. Experience with version 19c and above is mandatory.
  • 10+ years of experience with Oracle Real Application Cluster, including installation, upgrade, and patching.
  • 5+ years of experience in a team lead or supervisory role.
  • In depth understanding and hand-on experience with HA solution for DB (DataGuard, FSFO and Goldengate) and for application (UCP, ONS, FAN, AC, TG).
  • Strong SQL and PL/SQL knowledge.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.

Physical Demands

This job requires extensive sitting or standing at a computer station.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, during normal business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel Some travel may be required for this role as the engineering team is distributed across North America and India. Occasional customer travel may also be expected in this role.
