Speech-Language Pathologist, Pathways Health Centre for Children

Pathways Health Centre for Children is a family-centred community agency serving children and youth with physical, developmental and communication needs and their families as well as adults for selected specialized services in Lambton County. The Centre provides a full range of family-centred rehabilitation and support services. Aquatic programs in our therapeutic pool are open to people of all ages and abilities in the community. There is also an integrated childcare service (C.A.C.H.É.) on-site which allows preferential opportunities for Pathways staff.

Under the direction of a Clinical Services Supervisor, and in partnership with the Clinical Services team, the Speech-Language Pathologist will provide service to clients of Pathways Health Centre for Children, through Community-based Rehabilitation Services and School-based Rehabilitation Services, with the local Indigenous communities, and other programs needing Speech-Language support.

This includes but may not be limited to screenings, assessments, intervention supports, consultation, swallowing and feeding screenings* and counselling and education to families, primary caregivers, schools and the community.

*The Entrance to School (ETS) program is part of the new service offerings through the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). This program will support families with young children up to 6 years of age who are registered with the OAP and who are starting school for the first time (either Kindergarten or grade one). The group-based program will focus on preparing children to enter school, and target skill-building within the following six domains: communication, play, social interaction, functional routines, behavioural self-management, pre-academics, and learning and attention. Children will attend for up to six months of service, either mornings or afternoons, five days per week. The Speech-Language Pathologist is part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the children and families accessing this program. Following the 6-month group program, children will transition to school, and the Speech Language Pathologist will support transition to the school.

Qualifications

  • Registration and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario
  • Cultural competency training is an asset.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members
  • Enthusiastic about working with children and their caregivers
  • Efficient and effective time management and service delivery skills
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with children with autism preferred
  • Experience working with children with special needs, their families and the community

The successful candidate must be available to work flexible hours, must have a valid Ontario driver’s license and maintain adequate liability insurance or must have ongoing access to a vehicle and driver for Pathways business. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check and proof of applicable immunizations including the COVID-19 vaccination are also required.
