Position Purpose:

This position is responsible for ensuring the accurate, timely and smooth flow of bill ready and settlement ready data. The position also proactively manages the Field Area Network (FAN) and provides higher level support for an optimized data process flow. Staff will oversee and support Alectra meter data systems and provide reporting, business analysis, project management and development of best practices.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Use Customer Information Systems, and ancillary systems to perform root cause analysis on anomalies and provide recommendations based on best practices
  • Perform VEE and action resolution for corrected data to flow, supporting bill ready and settlement ready data
  • Manage Field Area Network to optimize AMI data, including monitor of meter to access point (AP), access point performance and request field action
  • Configure and manage backbone devices (access point, gates and relays), monitor and troubleshoot reachability of APs and Relays. Support meter data configuration specifications in new metering equipment
  • Functions as a “super user” in Meter Data Management systems, processes, and data management that can provide support and training to other employees
  • Represent the department on corporate initiatives. Researches and recommends emerging processes, enhancements, and technologies
  • Develop and maintain Technical Support/knowledge base, and technical specifications
  • Engage 3rd parties, facilitate re-occurring meeting with vendors, driving a collaborative resolution of issues
  • Foster positive end-user relationships and drive customer satisfaction
  • As assigned by Supervisor gather and report operational metrics that drive continuous improvement
  • Develops, executes, and documents test plans as well as testing of applications, integration, firmware, telecommunication changes or grid-edge application deployments or upgrades
  • Responsible for a working knowledge and understanding of and make all efforts reasonable to work in accordance with and ensuring work is done in compliance with the appropriate safety legislation, EUSR rules, Alectra policies and procedures and safe work practices that apply to the work while adhering to the internal responsibility system. Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices using Alectra procedures
  • Contact customers as required to support telecommunication or data accuracy issues
  • Monitor and action resolutions steps for cross-system data synchronization (ex: multi-speak, Oracle Service Bus, AS2 or flat file transfers)
  • Provide expertise and support implementation as Alectra develops the next generation metering solutions
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

Education & Specialized Knowledge

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in a technical, computer science or business discipline
  • Certificate in RF Engineering Technology an asset
  • Certified Engineering Technologist designation an asset
  • Business Analyst or Project Management certification an asset

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a utility or business production environment
  • RF Communication experience and assessing business systems an asset
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with staff, management, and other departments to achieve positive outcomes for the company
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, oversee multiple tasks, and quickly manage rapid changes in priorities and resources
  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimum supervision in a high-volume environment with heavy production and deadline requirements
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office (Word & Excel & Outlook)
  • Knowledge of systems and database tools, with the ability to create database queries
  • Demonstrated ability in Alectra systems and applications an asset
  • Understanding of IESO (MDMR) Validation, Estimation and Editing rules
  • Proficient in User Acceptance Test case design and testing
  • Knowledge of the Measurement Canada Act and Regulations, OEB regulations, ESA regulatory legislation, and other codes, rules and regulations related to electricity metering an asset
  • Knowledge of metering concepts and supporting technologies, and industry practices an asset
  • Knowledge of regulatory and governmental requirements (OEB Rules and Regulations, PIPEDA and OHSA)
