Kayla’s Children Centre (KCC) is a school, therapy clinic, and recreational centre for children with disabilities, behavioural challenges, and complex medical needs. The centre supports children ages 6 weeks to 21 years who have a wide range of disabilities and provides a variety of specialized programs that enable them to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. KCC also offers personalized supports and respite for families.
KCC’s programs include a licensed day care and specialized school; on-site therapy centre; after-school and weekend respite; adapted sports; life skills programs for teens; a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy centre; and day and overnight camps.

Role: Special Education Teacher
We are seeking a candidate to work in our school setting providing whole group, small group, 1:1 support and behaviour management in the classroom. The candidate will have the benefit of working within a multi-disciplinary team of experts such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, music therapists, and behaviour analysts.
Responsibilities:
• Create Individual Education Plans for your students
• Ongoing communication with families
• Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities
• Writing detailed lesson plans
• Supervise and mentor teacher assistants
• Use individualized reinforcement technique
• Teach in large group, small group and one-on-one settings
• Implement Independent Activity Schedules
• Implement social skills, life skills and self-regulation strategies
• Collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team
• Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, and administrator
• Implement behaviour management protocol
• Record and track data
Qualifications and Skills:
• Ontario College of Teachers Certification is preferred
• Special Education Part 1 Additional Qualification, and experience working with students with Learning Disabilities and/or ADHD considered an asset
• Effective experience working with a broad variety of learners and children in an educational setting
• Strong behaviour management skills
• ABA training
• Leadership skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Experience working with children of all ages
• CPR and crisis prevention certifications (preferred)
