Position Summary:
Our client is currently seeking a Software Engineer based in their Edmonton, Alberta office. They’re willing to relocate the right individual.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will work in the Controls and Monitoring group responsible for the design, implementation, documentation, and maintenance of embedded software for the management of the Company's Heat Trace Control products. Though the primary focus will be on embedded real-time firmware design, other activities will also include working with hardware designers and other development groups assisting in the design review and qualification of all new products. The candidate may be required to provide product engineering and application support to customers, sales, marketing and manufacturing groups.
Key Position Requirements:
- The candidate will work as part of a small development team, and must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
- Must possess strong troubleshooting and debugging abilities with attention to detail and a quality-oriented work ethic.
- Ability to research, design and code under minimal supervision.
- Has the ability to create and maintain detailed technical documentation for internal and customer use.
- Experience with real time embedded programming with intimate knowledge of C/C++ and Assembly languages particularly for use with 68HC11, MC9S12, Coldfire, and Intel 80386.
- A working knowledge of hardware as it relates to microcontrollers in control products.
- Familiar with serial and Ethernet communications coupled with a detailed knowledge of industrial protocols such as Modbus/Modbus TCP/IP, CAN and Bluetooth.
- Exposure to CAE/CAD environments including schematic capture, PCB layout, AutoCad are assets.
- Exposure to National Instruments LabView is an asset.
- Experience with MQX RTOS, uCLinux/Linux is an asset.
- Excellent people and team skills, with strong written and oral communication proficiency.
- Motivated to resolve complex technical issues, energetic, quick learner, self-starter.
Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years experience in the development of real-time embedded software.
