JOB TITLE: Software Engineer (Back End)
SALARY: The salary banding for this role is £45,954 - £51,060
LOCATION: Halifax or Edinburgh
HOURS: 35 hours, full time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

We’re looking for a smart, pragmatic, and self-motivated software engineering professional, with practical experience of API design and development, microservices, and cloud technologies. You’ve worked as a valued member of agile teams. You have a strong appreciation of engineering principles and patterns and can effectively utilise both to shape solutions.

This vacancy lies at the very heart of this within the Identity and Authentication platform. In ID&A, we strive to give every customer of the Group the strongest possible protection against fraud. It’s an interesting, challenging, and dynamic problem space, and we are assembling an elite engineering function in the North of England to help catalyse this journey.
You’ll be working with industry leading architects, engineers and technicians as a part of the Authentication lab. You and your colleagues will be responsible for the delivery of robust and scalable software solutions from inception to production, across both public and private cloud platforms.

What you’ll need
Software Engineering, ideally with a focus on Java
Experience of API design and development
Experience of working with containerised microservices
A working knowledge of Authentication and Authorisation concepts
Exposure to TDD and to performance engineering/cloud optimisation
A good understanding of Networking & API Gateways
CI/CD and monitoring tools
Containers, orchestration & service mesh
And any experience of these would be really useful
A secret (or open) love of Golang
