Our skilled Technicians and Team Leads respond to and mitigate incidents involving both Hazardous and Non-Hazardous materials on behalf of hundreds of clients and agencies across Canada. For over 30 years QM has been a trusted name in industry, delivering effective response and remedial strategies using industry leading techniques and equipment.

We are currently looking for highly motivated team players to join our growing ranks of field staff and have immediate openings for XXXX in the following locations:

Halifax, NS

Position Summary:

This is an operational, hands- on position. Candidates for the XXXX role should expect to:

  • Comply with and enforce Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Travel with short notice and work within a dynamic shift schedule during on-duty periods.
  • Perform physical activities in an outdoor setting and at times,  in inclement weather.
  • The supervision and coordination of site personnel and subcontractors, the reporting of all relevant site activities and managing the quality of work performed.
  • Select and/or develop operational procedures and strategies that ensure the safety and well-being of personnel while protecting client property and the environment.
  • Participate in ongoing training and team development.
  • Supervise, mentor and support team members
  • Adherence to QMLP Operating principles, guidelines, and standards where defined

Health and Safety

  • Be aware and willing to ensure safety compliance by all personnel on site.
  • Document any unsafe or potentially hazardous situations on site.
  • Ensure the appropriate safety equipment is available and worn by site personnel at all times.
  • Ensure that all requests to perform unsafe work practices that may result in damage to machinery, people or property are declined.

General

  • Ensure the daily work plan is completed as per the QM Environmental standard.
  • Works with the Project Management to plan and review overall status of project(s) on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure all site resources (labour, machinery, materials, sub-contractors etc) are effectively utilized and monitored in order to achieve timely completion of projects.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment used onsite are taken care of and put away. Any damage or defects are to be reported to the Project Management immediately.
  • Upon completion of task notify Project Management to ensure all appropriate hired equipment is taken off rent.
  • Must have full understanding and working knowledge of the QMLP’s Health, Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures, ensuring all site personnel adhere to them at all times
  • Prior to the commencement of site works, gain an understanding of the relevant project specifications and drawings.
  • On an ongoing basis, monitor all works against specifications to ensure the continuing quality and accuracy of work performed.
  • Notify the Project Management of any defects, mistakes, errors, contamination or variations identified.
  • Ensure all the applicable quality checklists are properly completed.
  • Ensure that relevant information is communicated to direct reports/sub-contractors enabling them to effectively carry out their functions.
  • Ensure that all employees have, or receive the proper training for their assigned tasks.
  • Be willing to receive specialized training in order to accomplish skilled tasks.

Position Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s license (abstract may be required) .
  • Supervisory experience in a Construction Site / Earthworks setting.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in use of common power tools and light to heavy industrial equipment.

Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of all service utilities eg: natural gas, electric, water, sanitary, storm etc
  • Thorough knowledge of practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools used in heavy civil construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work

Abilities:

  • Ability to interpret and work from instructions, penciled plans and sketches, and blue prints
  • Ability to lay out, direct, and supervise construction and major repair projects
  • Ability to supervise the work of others
  • Ability to understand and efficiently carry out instructions
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with superiors, subordinates, professionals, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Ability to keep records and to prepare work and time reports
  • Ability to use computers and is efficient with Microsoft excel
  • Ability to adapt to quickly to change

Work Environment:

  • Majority of time will be spent on job site
  • Use of specialized PPE may be required after appropriate training
  • Work is outdoors so appropriate clothing will be required

Preference will be given to candidates possessing knowledge and/or experience relating to:

  • Chemical handling
  • Provincial and/or federal Environmental Regulations
  • Hazardous Waste and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Liquid and solid product transfers or conveyance
  • Industrial applications such as working with and around heavy equipment, excavation, working at heights, working in and around confined spaces, use of pumps, and use of select instrumentation such as gas detection and metering.
