POSITION SUMMARY The instructor facilitates meaningful learning of the course competencies in the curriculum and proactively supports all facets of the learning environment. They provide education through learning-centered instruction that will enable graduates to fulfill the evolving needs of the marketplace. The successful candidate encourages a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning and ethics as well as personal and professional development. RESPONSIBILITIES Facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction and feedback, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes, using each courses standard course outline as a guide and adhering to a learning-centered approach. Deliver learning-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes and student success. Manage the learning environment through accurate records keeping (e.g. attendance, grades), submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school/campus academic and attendance policies. Relate professional/life/industry experience to learning by the continuation of professional/technical skills development, the introduction of industry perspective into courses, and the active awareness of professional/industry trends and opportunities. Design and deliver course instruction through the development of effective and engaging instructional plans to meet course outcomes, development of interactive and meaningful activities that scaffold learning, and delivery the instruction as approved. Develop course curriculum, course handouts, lectures, labs, studios, and presentations that spark curiosity, engagement, and inquiry for the learners. Work with other faculty and administrators in developing program curriculum, standards, and policies, including reviewing and participating in textbook selection process where appropriate. Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, internship, observation, field experience, and similar work integrated learning settings as appropriate for the course or program. Be available to students via email, or online conferencing and messaging tools. The method of contact and hours of availability should be clearly communicated to supervisors and to students through the course syllabus each semester. Take and submit attendance for every class, assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordance with LCV regulations and submit grades and records by established deadlines. Promote student success by showing flexibility in style and work schedule as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching and students and engaging students in the learning process. PROFILE OF THE SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION REQUIRED Education & Experience: Experience in instruction or formalized education process, preferably in a post-secondary or college institution. Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of field theory, practice, applications and tools. Membership, licensure, or certification within the discipline or area of instruction preferred. Educational /teacher training or certification preferred. Skills & Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to build successful relationships and work collaboratively with diverse student populations, faculty, and staff. Outstanding conflict resolution and de-escalation skills. Demonstrated time management and organizational skills. Technology skills for communication, instructional design, project and learning management. Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet frequently occurring deadlines Hourly Rate: $50.00 to $55.00 All employees at LaSalle College Vancouver are defined by key attributes which we value.
