Requisition Summary

This role supervises and oversees the shop service personnel to attain high levels of quality, morale, safety, and efficiency within the Branch’s maintenance team. This role supervises the technician team to achieve maximum efficiency when conducting maintenance and repairs to customer vehicles and shop equipment, for a designated shift. Additionally, this role will include invoicing, reviewing repair orders, may perform technician work as needed and fulfill Service Manager duties in their absence. This role reports to the Service Manager.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing and training direct reports in accordance with shop objectives to meet business goals.
  • Establish group and individual accountability: assign work, approve shift time (including overtime), track goal attainment by direct reports, and provide leadership and development as required to achieve business results.
  • Coordinate breakdowns over the road, provide approvals for work and communicate with the customer.
  • Notify and schedule preventative maintenance into the shop and communicate with the customer.
  • Research outside vendor statements and process invoices for payment.
  • Escalate service issues and approvals or work to Service Manager and General Manager as needed.
  • Review Quality of Work within Service Shop, including PM records and perform audit inspections to ensure units are being serviced according to PLC policy.
  • Certify that work performed is properly recorded on shop repair orders, including time, parts, tires and material. Close and invoice repair orders.
  • Ensure that General Shop Assistants are performing the 10-point inspection and complete their wash list while working with the rental department.
  • Observe technicians, perform key duties to uncover opportunities to provide coaching and feedback that improves employee performance.
  • Ensure maximum warranty recovery by closely monitoring and improving the warranty submittal processes.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and organized culture through adherence to safety procedures, shop cleanliness standards, uniforms requirements, and attendance policies.
  • Coordinate the preparation of new and sold vehicles for placement in or out-of-service along with the parts and service specialist.
  • Ensure that environmental guidelines and OSHA standards are followed.
  • Manage parts stock and inventory levels, returning parts and adjusting pricing as required.
  • Inventory Audits.
  • Process cores and shipment of warranty returns.
  • Review and reconcile vendor statements monthly.
  • Reviewing repair orders, verifying parts charged out, identifying possible warranty opportunities, and invoice activities.
  • Administrative duties include shop payables process, licensing, PACCAR solutions fleet management, change of service management, and warranty registration.
  • Acts as the primary contact for driver and customer communication during their shift.
  • Fulfill the Service Manager’s duties as needed in their absence.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Five or more years of diesel mechanic shop experience preferred.
  • Valid CDL with a good driving record.
  • Possess the physical abilities, without limitations, to perform duties of full job description.
  • Three or more years of Supervision skills in a previous role or Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Highly organized, comfortable with Microsoft Applications and Business System, Data and other IT systems.
  • Strong Leadership, organizational, and planning abilities.
  • Effective Customer Service skills; both written and verbal.

Education

  • High school diploma; some college preferred.

  • Position works in a Truck Service Shop environment. The chosen candidate must be able to work in areas that are hot or cold, surfaces may be slippery, climb ladders/stairs.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
  • When working in the shop, the work environment has moderate noise levels.
  • Ability to work any shift and weekends, depending on the demands of the business.
