The Role
Stockhouse Publishing Ltd. is currently looking for a UX expert who can assist in the development and enhancement of our online websites in Canada and Australia. This role is part of the Technology Group of the Capital Markets division of The Market Limited. We are looking to build improved and outstanding designs, interfaces and interactions for our users to help them achieve their goals. The qualified candidate will be able to provide a leadership role in establishing and implementing best practices in:

  • User research and identification of key audiences 
  • Market research, including user interviews and competitive analysis 
  • Crafting a brand story that drives our products forward 
  • Supporting open communication and collaboration across key business units in the company
  • Measuring success of ongoing product updates and enhancements

Primary Accountabilities

  • Outline and coordinate all UX projects 
  • Research and develop user personas 
  • Develop high-quality user interactions and user interfaces that deliver value to key audiences 
  • Collaborate with other departments to maximize efficiency and develop the best-of-breed design outcomes 
  • Create and design wireframes, prototypes, storyboards and mock-ups illustrating user journeys
  • Establish mechanisms to gain user feedback on key enhancements to the user experience
  • Analyze user feedback and onsite activity to iterate and enhance the user experience 
  • Mine available analytics data (e.g, Google Analytics) for insights into user behaviour 
  • Conduct usability testing where appropriate
  • Create style and brand guides to define standard design requirements to ensure consistency in implementation approach and design 
  • Coordinate the UI design to ensure high quality visuals and interactivity 
  • Willingness to explore industry trends in technology design and web development to stay abreast of modern changes in product design 
  • Work closely with the Product Development team to ensure viability of design
  • Work closely with the Product Development team on the hand-off of designs for implementation


Qualifications and requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience in User Experience roles, including leadership and mentoring of other designers
  • A diploma or degree in human psychology, human research, interactive arts, and/or graphic design/web development; or equivalent demonstrated work experience
  • Prior experience in a startup or small business environment
  • Expertise in visual design and use-systems interactions
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Amazing creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Proficient in graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Figma; or equivalent tools
  • Familiarity with prototyping tools
  • Understanding of agile software development practices
  • Demonstrate high level of professionalism
  • Ability to take ownership of issues and follow through to resolution
  • A collaborative mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement; humble yet ambitious
  • Diligent execution of company policies on security and privacy
