Job Description

As a Senior Underwriting Consultant, Group Benefits, you will work with the Group Underwriting team to ensure to achieve our financial targets on the group health, life and disability income lines of business. You lead development of renewals and quotes that are complex and innovative. Your initiatives require extensive knowledge of your specialty area. You make recommendations on the planning and execution of operationally and conceptually complex groups that require comprehensive analysis and understanding of the organization and line of business. Coordination is critical, so you interact with stakeholders working in many other fields. Interpersonal savvy is therefore essential. You measure actual results against industry standards and plan sponsor goals. You serve as specialist advisor and subject matter expert, as well as resource person and coach for decision-making bodies. More specifically, you will be required to :


  • Establish renewal pricing, including experience and trend analysis to justify reasons for renewal and recommend pricing of additional costings. This also includes responding to clients inquiries regarding pricing and experience
  • Establish pricing for new group contracts and answer financial questions within the proposals. Ensure that the offer presented corresponds to the available service offering
  • Review financial statements of group financial agreements in accordance with financial agreements. Draft and update financial agreements
  • Ensure that pricing objectives are met in terms of growth and profitability
  • Deal on an ongoing basis with the internal business development team and other internal teams (e.g. case management, group administration)
  • Acts as an expert advisor to team members
  • Works in collaboration with other team members on special projects

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • A minimum of six years of relevant experience in underwriting, specifically in group benefits
  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
  • Knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec
  • Proficient speaker, advanced proficiency of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
