Job Description

Based at the Rainy River mine, our client us looking for a Chief Underground Geologist to join their mine’s technical services department. Primary responsibilities include management and strategic direction of all geological activity within the underground, such as ore definition, grade control activities, and geology/contractor team management.


- Schedule: 14 days on, 14 days off - 12 hour days

- Position Reports To: Underground Mine Manager


Duties And Responsibilities


• Accountable for all mine geology and ore control activities in support of mine operations such as mapping, drilling, sampling, ore control, databases, modelling, and reconciliation.

• Responsible for dilution control in mining and stockpiling along with providing geological impacts on the mine design with and other permanent infrastructure.

• Manage the budgeting, forecasting and reporting for geological functions within the mine Technical Services department.

• Accountable for all reserve databases, models, and reserve reporting.

• Development and preparation of monthly reconciliation and reporting.

• Lead and supervise all geology related work in the mine area, providing training, instruction and supervision as it relates to regulatory and geology requirements.

• Work collaboratively with other departments including mine engineering, mining operations, processing, and other service departments to achieve project success.

• Engage in and have a mindset of continuous improvement with all related activities to minimize wastage and maximize ore recovery.

• Investigate, analyze and supervise the documentation of injuries, accidents and equipment damage, and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.

• Provide accurate and timely information to key stakeholders.


Qualifications


• A geology degree is required along with 15+ years of relevant experience in underground mine operations as a mine or production Geologist.

• Ability to design and implement ore control and resource modelling systems in a developing mine.

• Strong experience in ore control methodologies and designing/managing of diamond drill programs.

• Advanced skills in 3D mine design software is required (ie. LeapFrog, Deswik, MineSight, Datamine, etc) and MS Office Suite.

• Demonstrated commitment to ensuring a safe working environment.

• Exposure to project coordination and ability to make sound project decisions.

• Registered or ability to be registered as a Professional Geologist with Professional Geoscientists Ontario.

• G Class Driver’s License
