We are looking for a Senior User Experience & User Interface Designer for a 1 year contract opportunity. This is a Hybrid role that requires someone in office 2 days a week out our Downtown Toronto location. Core skills required are Figma and proficient knowledge of inclusive design principles and updated WCAG guidelines as stipulated in AODA.

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior User Experience & User Interface Designer with a strong background in creating engaging user experiences. To be a great fit, you should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, be creative and possess the ability to think outside the box to make decisions based on research findings.
You must also have outstanding collaboration abilities as you would be working very closely with Product Managers, government partners and Business Analysts/Product Owners, to create and govern the user interface and experience of our applications. You will collaborate with all teams (Product, Development, and Quality Assurance) throughout the entire lifecycle of design and development process.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design and/or co-ordinate the design of compelling product experiences for various groups of end users by facilitating ideation sessions, design sprints to engage partners, clients, and various stakeholders in creating user-centric products and processes across multiple projects and applications.

  • Work closely with Service Design & Product Management leadership to improve internal design processes and co-create policies and programs that continuously support user-centric practices.

  • Leverage varying research methods including but not limited to ethnography, user interviews, surveys, and usability testing and provide high quality reporting on design decisions and outcome.

  • Document, present and effectively communicate insights from research and design sprints with recommendations that would help define and execute product strategy.

  • Leverage research and data to design high-quality wireframes, personas, iterative prototypes, and AODA-compliant mockups based on user needs and incorporate user feedback from various stages of testing.

  • Create a unified end-to-end experience through proactive close collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders, building alignment and articulating design vision through strong storytelling and presentation skills

  • Create user testing plans and scripts to support required research and ensure design team members follow the required guidelines.

  • Maintain high quality, consistent design standards by creating and keeping the living style guide or other design artefacts up to date whilst adhering to brand specifications.

  • Ensure that all design work is produced to the highest standard in terms of content layout, visual appearance, usability, and user experience/user interface best practices

  • Ensure that all deliverables are provided on time, in line with specifications of the project plan and as coordinated with team leadership.

  • Identify and troubleshoot UIUX problems which can serve as blockers to project deliverable and success.

  • Review all features implemented to ensure compelling user experience as proposed.

  • Contribute to the growth of Service Design practices at Teranet by actively participating in a collaborative, supportive, challenging, and innovative environment, proactively offering or leading the execution of well-thought-out ideas and solutions to existing problems, while mentoring other junior designers.

  • Participate in Agile events, including daily scrums, sprint planning, program and backlog refinement, and retrospectives.

  • Always demonstrate professionalism and be a great ambassador of the Design Team and Teranet with all stakeholders.

About You

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in User Experience, Interaction and Interface design

  • Must have a good knowledge of design thinking methodologies and techniques

  • Must be able to assess business requirements, technical constraints, and research data and translate it into user-centric design systems.

  • Highly proficient with design tools (Figma, Adobe Xd, Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)

  • Highly proficient in creating and presenting UIUX artifacts including user journeys, low-high fidelity renderings, clickable iterative prototypes, etc., to leadership, stakeholders, and partners.

  • Must have proficient knowledge of inclusive design principles and updated WCAG guidelines as stipulated in AODA.

  • Excellent communication (written and oral), presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be an enthusiastic collaborator and be open to feedback.

  • Good understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3, and modern front-end interface possibilities

  • Ability to understand and design for multi-tier applications versus websites

  • Ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative and cross-functional agile team (proficient knowledge of collaboration tools such as JIRA and Confluence, a plus)

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and pivot in response to evolving business and clients’ needs and constraint

  • Must be able to efficiently manage or work on multiple projects/assignments at the same time

  • Must have a design portfolio that showcases proficient design skills, user-centric thinking and problem-solving.
