Job Description

WSP is seeking a proficient Senior System Safety Specialist who will play a pivotal role in the planning, development, and maintenance of WSPs System Safety Management System for railway projects. The ideal candidate should be well-versed in creating System Safety Plans, Safety and Assurance Reports, and Safety Cases in accordance with the principles of EN50126, EN50128, and EN50129.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain WSPs System Safety Management System for railway projects.Create comprehensive System Safety Plans, Safety and Assurance Reports, and Safety Cases.Manage safety assessment processes, including hazard identification, risk analysis, and safety requirements allocation.Establish safety requirements for the entire railway system, encompassing civil, architectural, electrical, mechanical, and railway systems (both hardware and software components).Oversee safety goals and the implementation of Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) for safety-critical functions, along with relevant documentation.Communicate and coordinate safety-related requirements with various stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, suppliers, contractors, and regulatory authorities.Supervise verification and validation activities to ensure that safety-critical components and systems meet expected performance standards.Implement risk reduction to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) levels and document hazard transfer processes, including client acceptance.Foster the development and enhancement of System Safety awareness and competence among Design Team members, ensuring that individuals involved in safety-critical activities are adequately qualified for their roles.Actively participate in System Assurance Audits and continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety measures and processes. Implement lessons learned and best practices to enhance safety performance.QualificationsProficient in crafting safety-related documentation, including safety policies, objectives, strategies, and communication plans to secure buy-in from all project stakeholders.Possession of a P.Eng designation or eligibility to obtain P.Eng certification from or an equivalent regulatory body in another Canadian province.A minimum of 8 years of experience in System Safety Management.Exposure and experience with Railway Systems on a broad scale.Proven application of System Safety Management principles in compliance with EN50126, EN50128, and EN50129 standards.Exposure to CMREA and IEC61508 is considered a valuable asset.If you are a qualified System Safety Manager/Specialist who thrives in a dynamic and safety-focused environment, we invite you to join our team in Alberta and contribute to the success of our railway projects.
