Background:
McElhanney has a well-established structural engineering group operating on Vancouver Island with staff currently located in Victoria and Courtenay. This group is comprised of over 20 structural engineers, technologists, and technicians in Victoria and an additional 8 structural staff in Courtenay. While there are experienced staff in both offices with a specialization in the bridge and buildings markets, traditionally, the structural engineering group in Victoria has focused on bridge projects while the Courtenay team has focused on buildings. With the many opportunities due to economic growth in southern Vancouver Island, we are looking to add a senior structural engineer with a background in buildings engineering to champion the growth of a team in Victoria focused specifically on delivering buildings projects.
The successful applicant will be supported by our established, experienced local team to develop new talent, grow our buildings market share on Vancouver Island, and deliver technical excellence.They will also seek to integrate with our existing municipal and land development divisions to enhance our reputation, add value to the client, and result in increased profitability; and will maintain relationships with satisfied, long-standing clients in the region.
The Opportunity:
McElhanney has a new and exciting opportunity for an inspirational and business-minded leader to join our existing structural division and become our buildings team lead in Victoria, BC. We are seeking an individual to lead a team of skilled professional and technical staff in a variety of structural building projects across southern Vancouver Island. This is a fantastic opportunity for a self-starter with excellent technical proficiency, supervisory and communication skills, business development, project management and client management capabilities. In this role, you will work closely with the Structural Division Managers in both Victoria and Courtenay, as well as the Branch Managers, in supporting branch and regional strategic plans and financial success.
We are seeking a true team player, who can act as the ‘team captain’ to provide support and collaboration to our senior leadership team and the Structural Building Technical Service Group within the company. In this role, you will provide direct technical oversight to your team, while working to ensure project requirements and branch goals are successfully met. You will continue to cultivate an environment that is set for long term success and foster an engaged culture with strong technical abilities.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As a seasoned professional, the Building Team Lead will work closely with and report directly to the Structural Division Manager in Victoria, as well as collaborate with the structural division in Courtenay, to achieve operational excellence, and resource sharing. The selected candidate in this role will have a keen eye in managing business operations, performance, utilization, and dedication to growing a technically sound team.
The successful candidate can rely on very capable and established operational and support teams in growing a strong cohesive team that incorporates and prioritizes our shared commitments to safety, project management excellence, andclient satisfaction. To be successful in this role, you will continually research creative ways to advance our technical service offerings.
