Is responsible and accountable for the short- and long-term planning, implementation, and execution of placements at each academic cycle. Negotiates with selected placements (hospital, long-term care, and community), recruits new partners, and retains current partners to provide quality clinical experiences for students. Ensures maximum use of the computerized network used for the coordination of health sciences placements in the Ottawa region, as well as management of the Schools clinical evaluation platform. Provides strategic leadership in the planning, development, and complex implementation of processes to ensure an efficient delivery of all placements. Develops a collaborative culture with all stakeholders that recognizes the importance and impact of everyone in the student experience when coordinating placements. Represents the School and student interests on various committees at faculty, regional and provincial levels with respect to clinical training. In this role, your responsibilities will include: Clinical placement planning and management: Determines priorities and analyzes overall clinical training needs. Develops and plans short- and long-term processes to ensure access to clinical settings for students enrolled in courses with a clinical component. Delegates the development and organization of laboratory schedules to the Intermediate Specialist, Practicum. Coordinates the creation and submission of internship applications for each program and for each academic cycle. Management of placement operations and activities: Oversees the management of various placement operations and activities. Acts as a consultant: Acts as a consultant for all matters relating to student placements and related processes.Advises students, practicum coordinators and professors on the choice of clinical settings, and on the measures to be taken to meet the prerequisites for clinical clerkships; informs students of the consequences of non-compliance. Recommends modifications or additions to laboratory activities based on changes in practices or observations reported by clinical settings. Communication and liaison: Communicates the placement guidelines issued by the various partners in the region. Initiates, cultivates, and maintains professional, positive, and productive relationships with the Schools and Universitys various partners with respect to students clinical training. Liaises with the Office of Risk Management regarding preclinicalrequirements. Negotiation with placement sites: Judiciously negotiates all requests between the Schools programs, with other universities in the region and with clinical agencies. Confirms accepted and rejected requests with internship coordinators. Liaises and follows up with agencies that have declined an internship application. Management of affiliation requests and agreements: Reviews the status of affiliation agreements for each placement. Coordinates the development of new agreements and renew existing ones. Computerized systems management: Manages the Schools clinical evaluation platform. Coordinates user access to the network. Placement Assignment: Assigns students to placements that will benefit their academic success following an analysis of their learning needs, language abilities, course objectives and placement agency limitations. Meetings and committees: Provides leadership as the School of Nursings representative on various faculty, regional and provincial committees related to practical training. Sits on the Regional Clinical Resources Committee and assumes the Chair or Vice-chair of the committee for a 2-year term. Supervision: Determines the tasks and responsibilities to be delegated to the Intermediate Specialist, supervises, and evaluates the performance. What you will bring: Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a registered nurse. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical nursing coordination role 9or a related professional program). Member of the College of Nurses of Ontario. Knowledge of university, hospital, long-term care, and community settings. Knowledge of current computer programs (Excel, Word, Outlook/Calendar). Knowledge of the placement management network and clinical evaluation platform. Knowledge of immunization principles and policies. Experience with interdisciplinary teams. Negotiation skills, tact, and diplomacy. Leadership, initiative, autonomy, and creativity. Bilingualism: French and English (spoken and written); to be considered for this position, candidates must be rated at the Low Advanced proficiency level or higher for both oral comprehension and reading comprehension in their second official language. The rating is determined by a proficiency test designed by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.
