By joining CIMA+ as an Overhead Transmission Engineer, you'll spearhead the design and implementation of secure, cost-effective solutions for major complex capital projects within the major utilities in Western Canada. With a keen analytical mindset and discerning judgment, you'll tackle intricate design challenges, advocate cutting-edge methodologies, and nurture professional growth. The successful candidate will work under the supervision and leadership of CIMA+ Energy group and be based in our Vancouver office

Primary Responsibilities

  • Execute and deliver small to large-scaled engineering design projects from concepts to construction stages for voltages up to 735 kV.
  • Use the PLS program suite to model, analyze, design and optimize route alignments, structure spotting and wood / steel / fibre reinforced structure designs
  • Provide technical advice, mentorship and guidance to less experienced professionals
  • Prepare project documentation and deliverables in adherence to clients project and Engineering Design Practices, encompassing evaluation reports, procurement and construction specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, calculations, hazard logs, and test plans
  • Develop design work packages, including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates
  • Produce signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC Practices
  • Consider interface of lines terminations with Station design.
  • Consider associated and related civil, mechanical, and electrical systems in design.
  • Provide technical guidance and review of designs prepared by others following established practices.
  • Manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost.

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience
  • Registered member of a Professional Engineering association in BC, or eligible for registration in BC
  • Demonstrated experience with the design of Overhead - lines for operating voltages from 69kV to 735kV in an electric utility environment.
  • Proficient in the use of PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole and PLS-Tower design/analysis software and CAD systems, along with familiarity of drawing standards
  • Structure (steel, concrete, fibre-reinforced) and Foundation design experience
  • Ability to provide technical direction to junior engineers.
  • Ability to find value-adding engineering solutions and reach consensus.
  • Effective communication abilities in English, including analytical skills, interpersonal communication, and presentations. (French is an asset)
  • Field review and site-engineer experience (an asset)
  • Experience in project management including estimating, cost control, and administration.
