Job Description

Mott MacDonald is a multi-disciplined engineering and advisory consultancy, with a significant presence in the West Coast transportation and infrastructure and water/wastewater realm. We work on some of the largest tunnel projects in the world. As a result of our continued and sustained growth, we’re now looking to hire a Senior Geotechnical Project Engineer with strong experience with geotechnical instrumentation to join our geotechnics practice to support the work we are doing on the Calgary LRT project.

This will be a dynamic role as part of a large project team delivering one of the most impactful transit projects in Canada.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessment of subsurface conditions and development of design criteria, Geotechnical Interpretation/Engineering Reports.
  • Completing detailed static analyses for geotechnical aspects of the types of projects listed above.
  • Detailed seismic analyses for geotechnical aspects of the types of projects listed above including site response analysis, seismic slope stability analysis, and liquefaction triggering analyses.
  • Development and execution of field instrumentation programs and evaluation of collected data
  • Overseeing installation of geotechnical instrumentation as well as routine monitoring of instrumentation.
  • Undertaking analysis and design tasks, summarize, review, and interpret laboratory data.
  • Preparing, composing, reviewing and finalizing technical reports.
  • Managing assigned task scope, schedule, and budgets.
  • Managing and mentoring junior/graduate engineers and supporting their development;

Education, Skills and Experience required to succeed in this role will include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology;
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in geotechnical consultancy (not including education);
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng) license in Alberta or ability to quicky register
  • 5+ years of experience in the installation and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation, analysis of related data and development of reports preferably with underground structures/infrastructure
  • Proficient use of geotechnical software (e.g. Plaxis, GeoStudio packages/Slide, Ensoft packages, DEEPSOIL, Flac);
  • Proven track record in geotechnical design;
