Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the incumbent will be part of a small, multi-disciplinary engineering team whose primary responsibility is the conceptual development, design, and execution of capital and maintenance projects. The incumbent will be expected to assume both lead and support roles, depending on the primary purpose of the project. Typical projects include installation of new manufacturing machinery, and upgrades of existing machinery to improve productivity, capacity, reliability, flexibility, product quality, energy efficiency, and most importantly, worker safety.

Job Duties:

  • Identification of challenges and improvement opportunities within manufacturing, energy management, steam plant and environmental control operations in conjunction with operations personnel, mill management and external regulatory agencies
  • Conceptual development and cost estimation of solutions in response to those challenges in conjunction with vendors and engineering consultants, coordinating feasibility studies as required
  • Prepare or assist in preparation and presentation of business cases for assigned projects to obtain funding
  • Upon approval of funding, assume responsibility for the execution of projects or sub-projects. This will include:
    • Detailed plans and specifications
    • Gantt charts
    • Bid documents and evaluations
    • Procurement
    • Coordination and supervision of installation by mill trades and/or contractors.
    • Hazard assessments, development of preliminary lockout and safe work procedures, and pre-start safety checks
    • Start-up, commissioning, and coordination of worker and trades training on new equipment or technology
    • Authentication of documents as required, document management
    • Post-project follow-up and support
    • Monthly project cost and progress reporting

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation and Control
  • Member in good standing of Engineers and Geoscientists BC
  • 15 years or more Engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is an asset
  • Knowledge of electrical power systems and industrial process control for medium and low voltage systems
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint)
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding of Machinery, Arc flash hazard awareness, and Lock-out procedures
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Project software
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

The starting range for this role is $102,000 to $136,000 or higher, depending on your experience.
