Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for a Senior Production Geologist with a competitive base salary between $110,000 to $143,000 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity with an additional short-term incentive of 15%.

The primary purpose of the Senior Production Geologist is to ensure the efficient and effective mining of ore at the Brucejack Mine. The Senior Production Geologist will assist the Chief Mine Geologist with leading all aspects of the day-to-day ore control operations to include geological mapping/interpretation, sampling & tracking of ore grades, tonnages & stockpiles while assisting in the maintenance of production databases for the development and timely delivery of production data reports. 

The Senior Production Geologist will aid in the development, iterative refinement, and optimization of appropriate ore control procedures for the challenging high-grade epithermal mineralization at Brucejack. The incumbent will work in close association with both the Chief Mine Geologist and Technical Services Manager (or designate) and will assist with the planning, execution and interpretation stages of geological data collection and will be a key contributor to all new geological models, Mineral Resource, and Mineral Reserve estimates for short- and long-term mine planning. The position requires strong commitment to the highest levels of professionalism, health and safety standards, and environmental protection.

Perform following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

  • Support and lead the underground production mine geology team and promote safety & health, environmental, and community relations initiatives, and all supporting policies and procedures.
  • Lead and assist in underground geological mapping, sampling, ore body interpretation, and data analysis for grade control modeling.
  • Revise and optimize planned production stope boundaries based on the synthesis of all available geological data.
  • Optimize ore/waste identification through detailed analysis of geological and sampling data, integrating detailed understanding of structure, alteration, veining, and mineralization.
  • Support ore production and reporting and assist in the detailed reconciliation of the mine to mill flow of information.
  • Assist in the planning, review, and management of all stope definition drill programs in conjunction with the Technical Services Manager (or designate) and Chief Mine Geologist
  • Monitor and evaluate geological and analytical data quality on an ongoing basis and work closely with the Vancouver-based Database Manager and Resource team.
  • Ensure that quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) measures are implemented throughout the grade control process (including data validation), and that data quality is of the highest standard.
  • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of a portfolio of underground mine projects, regularly reviewing projects with the Chief Mine Geologist, ensuring decision points are developed & maintained, and project deadlines and budgets are met.
  • Work with other departments to understand short-, intermediate-, and long-term planning goals and develop strategies to align the timing and specification of geology outputs to achieve these.
  • Liaise with and provide support to the underground geotechnical team on ground control issues.
  • Lead in the implementation of a level-by-level underground geological and structural mapping program and train the geological team on best practices and interpretive excellence.
  • Work closely with Chief Mine Exploration Geologist (or designate) and assist with the implementation of Brownfields Exploration program(s) at the mine.
  • Communicate key learnings from advances in knowledge of the underground geology and controls on mineralization to the resource modeling and exploration geology teams, in addition to within the underground mine geology team.
  • Mentor the underground mine geology team to achieve a high level of operational capability, providing regular and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a professional work environment and encourage technical and operational excellence from the geological and grade control teams.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with safety policies and governmental safety regulations including those of the Ministry of Mines and WorkSafeBC
  • Perform other related duties as required.

About You  

Position requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering (post-graduate degree preferred).
  • Registered with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) as a Professional Geologist (P. Geo)
  • 5-10 years of progressive underground mine production geology experience.
  • Proven experience working with, and as part of, underground mine geology groups.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, community, and the environment.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and procedures
  • Cross cultural awareness with an understanding and sensitivity of the challenges associated with differences in cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Environmental awareness with a commitment to minimize impacts inside and outside of the mine’s footprint.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration
  • High level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Strong leadership, time management, and decision-making skills
  • Advanced geological interpretive and analytical skills
  • A solid background in structural geological skills is preferred.
  • Understanding and recognition of mineralisation models and geological processes
  • Understanding of economic parameters of mining operations
  • Advanced computer software knowledge and experience (i.e., Vulcan, AutoCAD, MapInfo, database management and Microsoft Office products)
  • Project coordination and budget management experience

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 13 days on/13 days off rotation
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
  • Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts.
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team.
