Delphia is a growing (44 people), multi-disciplinary team located in the heart of downtown Toronto and around major North American cities. We began in January 2018 and are graduates of Y Combinator and the Creative Destruction Lab . We’ve raised two rounds of funding and approximately $20 million to date.
About the Role
Delphia currently provides a best-in-class active investing algorithm. This powers an easy, stress-free investing experience for our users in the Delphia mobile app. At the heart of this experience is reporting. We are aiming to build experiences that highlight and explain how the algorithm is predicting the movement of the financial market and how it is using data to make these predictions.
For our success, it is essential that these experiences be easy to comprehend, and will require both a detail-orientated approach to data-visualization, and the craft of delightful story-telling with large amounts of data. Our customers tread a fine-line between wanted to know how the algorithm works but not having the expertise to sift through lengthy amounts of data. we need you to help us conceptualize and deliver amazing reporting experiences.
What you'll be doing:
- Own the design process and experience direction for displaying data and reporting on performance for Delphia's Investment Portfolios housed in our Native Mobile Experiences (iOS and Android)
- Explore and bring new perspectives on ways and methods to visualize data and information in order to create exceptional, data experiences
- Contribute to any data visualization or experience standard for this product area
- Partnering with Tech and Product Leadership, play active role in defining the long-term strategy for Portfolio dashboards and reporting, and lead the design on shorter-term experiments and iterations to reach that strategy
- Lead research initiatives by contributing to research questions and highlighting ways to validate and understanding assumptions and solution opportunities with our users
- Shape and define new opportunities to explore and build the solution for exploration
- Facilitate workshops with team to find opportunities to around discovery and solution alignment and convergence
- Active role in forwarding the design strategy with the Leadership, and helping to shape the direction of the Design System by making meaningful contributions
About you:
- 5-8 years of experience working with an in-house team at a customer facing product company (or equivalent)
- A portfolio of work that shows your areas of expertise in crafting amazing dashboards and telling stories with data. No "word-clouds" please. See our Portfolio Expectations here
- Demonstrated experience leading design for a product area
- Experience with financial data or Fin Tech experience a plus
Within 1 month, you will:
- Familiarize yourself with the product and the tools, process and Language of Design at Delphia
- Understand the current-state and tooling for data visualization and data experience
- Meet and build relationships with direct partners in development and product management, as well as other stakeholders
- Begin to learn how our customers use, interact and speak about the experience of data in the Delphia app
Within 6 months, you will:
- Help to develop opportunities of strategic focus around visualizing data
- Accelerate design experiments to validate assumptions and conceptualize solutions
- Gain an intimate knowledge of the possibilities and limits of building and visualizing data experiences
- Interview and speak to users about the projects and experiences under your responsibility.
- Present your work to various stakeholders
- Provide guidance and feedback through your own unique view-point, influencing and pushing the overall quality of the team forward
Within 12 months, you will:
- Become an expert and trusted consultant around Data experiences at Delphia
- Begin to see how all the pieces of the our experience fit into the larger strategic vision
- Gain ownership and directly interact with development and product leaders to shape the phases of our product
- Help to onboard new hires and make impacts to the design culture at Delphia
