Job Description

The Department of Health and Social Services works under the direction of the Minister and Deputy Minister, in partnership with the Health and Social Services Authorities, to support the health and wellbeing of people across the NWT through planning, development, evaluation and reporting on program and service delivery.

Job Information

Working closely with the Authorities, the Senior Nursing Consultant is accountable for the planning, monitoring, implementation and/or refinement of primary healthcare services and for the promotion of primary health services that are consistent with the established policies, standards and guidelines and with the Strategic Framework for the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services system.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- expert and specialized knowledge of primary health care especially related to nursing;

- knowledge of international, provincial and national trends in health services;

- sensitivity to the cultural, social and political conditions of regions and the health and social services environment in the NWT;

-knowledge of legislation, regulations,standards, policies and guidelines related to advanced nursing practice in order to provide current, relevant and feasible consultation services;

- knowledge and skills in human relations is critical to being able to work with colleagues, coworkers, and individuals in client organizations with a wide range of corporate/organizational cultures

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

acquired through a degree in Nursing, current status as a Registered Nurse and a minimum of 5 years of related nursing experience.
