Job Description

This position is needed to help with an increasing workload in capital project, emergency replacement and restoration work, asset management strategic OMA work programs and Owners Engineer review work.

This role requires experience with the design of electrical utility substations with operating voltages from 12kV to 500kV and demonstrated experience working with utility design solutions a in an electric utility environment. It requires specialized knowledge of a large breadth of equipment, so the ideal candidate would have operational, design and manufacturing experience in HVAC, standby power systems, fire protection, and plumbing.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with the company's project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).
  • Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
  • Prepare signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and company design practices.
  • Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.
  • Create designs, drawings, specifications, and maintenance standards for company's substation mechanical systems
  • Create designs, drawings, specifications and maintenance standards for company's Telecom mechanical systems
  • Other miscellaneous mechanical systems as required

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • 8+ years of related experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
  • The company uses a Digital Sign and Seal Technology. You may be required to subscribe to a digital seal technology service offered by Notarius
  • Ability to provide technical directions to junior engineers
  • Ability to manage design tasks including scope, schedule and cost
  • Ability to find engineering solutions that add value and to reach consensus
  • Ability to communicate efficiently including verbal and technical writing in the English language, analytical, interpersonal communications and presentation skills
  • Experience in project management including estimating, cost control, and project administration

This role requires regular or occasional attendance at the company's workplace(s) and as such will be subject to the company Contractor Vaccination Policy. This policy requires all contractor resources to be fully vaccinated by January 10, 2022 or prior to the work assignment start date whichever date is later.

Term: 1-year initial contract with expected extension based on workload and performance.
