With offices across Canada, we leverage the experience of our 250+ Kasian team members to deliver innovative and unique design solutions in multiple market sectors: commercial, workplace, healthcare, senior living, industrial and public.The Opportunity:We are seeking a motivated and passionate Senior Interior Designer to complement our Calgary office, where we are involved in exciting work across a range of building types including commercial, mixed-use, retail, industrial, hospitality, public buildings, and healthcare.You will manage the interior design direction on several concurrent projects and provide project leadership. Assist with business development and present to clients. Mentor and coach intermediate and junior interior designers. Responsibilities may include project management and contract administration. Here’s what you’ll be doing at Kasian:PlanTake responsibility for the overall quality of the interior design productAct as or work with the Project Manager (PM) to create work plans, drawing lists, scope of services, budgets, and staffing requirements to deliver interior design solutionsEstablish and maintain interior design production standards and proceduresActively manage project fee budgets and costs to ensure profitability, draft fee agreements and contractsDevelop innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, and conducive to intended purposes and functions which are reflective of client goals and within the project budgetRender conceptual design ideas and prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawingsDeliverLead and participate in the Kasian design process including the creation of design concepts, presentation material, and submission documentationChair design and production meetingsPrepare and coordinate project schematic/conceptual designsPrepare layouts, sketches and space plans required to convey design intentParticipate in strategic planning, client programming, and needs analysis phasesWork with technical and contract administration staff to produce successful design development and contract documentation in alignment with Kasian’s standards of quality, project specifications, and client program and budget needsWork with authorities having jurisdiction to interpret and conform to codes and bylawsCo-ordinate and/or undertake the selection and specification of furniture systems, fixtures, and equipmentCoordinate with project consultants and construction managersOversee all aspects of contract administrationCoordinate and/or undertake site deficiency review and installation inspectionsApprove, monitor, and manage all time spent on projects, expenses, and consultant invoicesMaintain project recordsProvide leadership, training, and mentorship to intermediate and junior staffKeep current with innovative and forward-thinking design including research on materials and productsApply thorough knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines to incorporate Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projectsWhat you bring to Kasian:Diploma or Degree in Interior DesignNCIDQ certification is preferred10 to 15 years of interior design experienceStrong knowledge of current industry trends as well as local industry manufacturers and representationAbility to prepare and complete a comprehensive interior design construction set of drawingsAdvanced design awareness and knowledge of interior design principles and elementsAdvanced understanding of construction and construction administration processKnowledge of applicable building codes and by-lawsPermit application knowledgeStrong knowledge and proficiency in graphics software (Revit, AutoCAD, Sketch-up, Adobe Suite)Excellent graphic presentation and design layout skillsExcellent communication, time management, and teamwork skillsAbility to develop and maintain client relationshipsAbility to present to, and negotiate with clientsExcellent problem-solving skillsBe able to lead projects with minimal supervisionDemonstrate knowledge and experience in delivering high-quality design solutionsThis opportunity is an exceptional career fit for a candidate with long-term ambitions to contribute to one of Canada’s top architectural practices.
