About this opportunity:

This role will focus on EOR and optimization opportunities within the Conventional Heavy Oil Assets. A thorough review of all suspended and active well bores to identify re-completion value add opportunities, including recompletions, re-entries, and redevelopment wells on primary production, and working closely with the EOR Reservoir group to review optimization opportunities within existing CO2, Polymer and Waterflood EOR projects. Assist in identification of any new development opportunities, injection conversion and future EOR phases to sustain or grow production.

Review of re-entry opportunities within the CHO asset base where we have opportunities to side-track from existing well bores to land new ML wells or add additional legs from existing single leg HZ’s.

Requires effective collaboration, high technical competency, problem solving and leadership skills. We are looking to grow our EOR business substantially over the next 10+ years and this position will contribute significantly to reaching Cenovus’s production goals.

What you’ll do:

  • Responsible for evaluating and building a catalog of recompletion and EOR opportunities.

  • Collaborate heavily with equivalent reservoir optimization role to categorize every inactive and active well from an opportunity standpoint for value-add optimization opportunities.

  • Complete all initial ARO screening for the CHO business and ensure every well has a plan.

  • Review re-entry/sidetrack opportunities and rank within broader portfolio. Progress opportunities through technical assurance for budget approval.

  • Collaborate closely with reservoir team to define potential optimization opportunities, economically evaluate, and bring forward for consideration.

  • Assist in standing up new EOR projects including support for regulatory submissions.

  • Support core flood studies/evaluations and reservoir analysis.

  • Consistently supports team members in executing project deliverables.

  • Prioritizes safety as part of planning and organizing work.

  • Makes good decisions with limited information.

  •  Holds self and others accountable for delivering results safely.

Who you are:

  • Experience with Mannville stratigraphy

  • Sound knowledge of geology including clastic depositional systems preferably with some exposure to Heavy Oil settings.

  • Demonstrates the ability to understand and operate effectively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Competent in the use of industry software (i.e. Petrel, Geographix, Accumap, Microsoft Suite)

  • Approximately 8+ years related industry experience.

  • B.Sc. Degree or higher in Geology.

  • Member of APEGA or other Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization (or application status in progress)
