Senior Financial Analyst - Corporate DevelopmentLocation: Hybrid - OntarioEmpire life is looking to hire a Financial Analyst to join our Corporate Development Finance team!The Financial Analyst is part of the Corporate Development team and will be responsible for supporting activities relating to commercial and consumer loans and block acquisitions. The incumbent works under the moderate supervision of the Vice-President, Finance - Corporate Development. Play an integral role - this is an opportunity that allows for you to grow your skills, while directly contributing to the business unit you are a part of.What you’ll be working onLoan related responsibilities, including:Make a full assessment of loan opportunities and, as appropriate, provide a recommendation based on the underwriting results. Actively manage pipeline in conjunction with relationship managerSupport collection of data required to underwrite advisor loansCompile and analyse data to underwrite loansPrepare detailed financial models and covenant reviews, including scenario analysisProvide sound risk assessments and recommendationsEscalate and discuss questionable and new situations with a solution focused approachMake recommendations regarding security and collateral to underwrite the loanPrepare memos and term sheets for approval ensuring pre-review (and walk-through as required) with appropriate senior managementLiaise with various internal departments as required throughout the process including Corporate Treasury, Legal, Retail, Investments etc.Loan Management responsibilities, including:Provide feedback on underwriting policy and practice Annual re-evaluation and analysis of borrower’s financials to ensure covenants continue to be metCollaborate with and support Finance and/or Senior management through loan default processCoordinate and prepare financial transactions for payments delivered and receivedDocument and maintain processes and proceduresSystem workflow managementPrepare regular reporting of key performance drivers and metricsMonthly review of Credit, Debt and Requirement to Pay reportsManage system generated approvalsCoordinate discharge of loansWork with other team members to continuously improve and automate team processes and templates Participate in projects and initiatives as assignedProvide back-up to the team and support other business units as requiredSupport analysis of competitive environment, sales targets, revenue targets and budgetDevelop and prepare management reports showing trends, key performance drivers, return on investment calculations and other metricsDocument internal controls, identify & close gapsRun scenario analysis to assist the program leads with strategic planning and to develop long-term plansAnnual budget preparation and forecastsWhat we’re looking for you to haveCPA, and/or CGA/CMA/CA designationBilingualism (French & English) is an assetCompletion of a Bachelor’s degree with courses in business, accounting or finance5+ years’ work experience developing, executing and improving financial reporting and analysis in a corporate environmentInsurance or Financial Services experience is valuableAbility to work independently; prioritizing and balancing multiple tasksExcellent analytical, logical, decision-making and problem solving skillsWell-developed organizational, mathematical and interpersonal skillsAbility to be decisive and show consistently good judgementExcellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to collaborate and build relationships.
