The ideal candidate will be relationship oriented, proactive, self-motivated, bring critical thinking, possess a high attention to detail while still being able to meet deadlines and manage multiple taskssimultaneously.This position will support their team towards the overall successful achievement of the team goals. This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model. Key Responsibilities: Capital Planning Assist the Senior Manager of Capital Finance in developing processes, effectively utilizing systems and tools to provide accurate and high quality capital budgets, forecasts and analytics, to facilitate short and long term strategic and operational business decisions Manage the day-to-day activities that support operational and organizational capital planning activities and related reporting and analysis for strategic and operational decision making Assist in the consolidation of financial reports and critical KPI’s across the business units – ensuring KPI tracking and analysis of capital projects are in line with budgets and updated forecasts Serve as a subject matter expert for the company related to the capital process and provide support to the business Manage capital tracking and provide capital dashboards on a regular basis to senior management and the board Manage the capital project reporting process with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate reporting Capital Accounting/Reporting Prepare monthly accounting entries and reconciliations for capital projects Perform analysis and commentary on monthly variance analysis against budget and forecast, provide explanations and recommendations to stakeholders Conduct monthly capital review meeting with key stakeholders Implement process controls and manage the capital approval process across the company Assist with ongoing continuous improvement initiatives related to the tracking and reporting of capital projects, delegation of authority and approval process Design, prepare and communicate all capital related financial reports as require Monitor the day-to-day processes to support the accurate, timely entry of the asset sub-ledger(s), including asset recognition, in service assets, transfers from construction in progress to in service assets, and derecognition Ensure proper asset classification, allocation and depreciation is recorded Ensure alignment between capital accounting practices, IFRS and regulatory requirements and provide quarterly information for external reporting purposes Prepare capital related materials for external and board reporting Work together with the external financial reporting team to develop accounting policies and internal controls as it relates to capital assets Work together with other internal organizational stakeholders to develop standards and ensure alignment, and continuously improve processes and systems Ensure the consistency of financial processes and procedures, and continuously optimize to gain efficiency Leadership Collaborate with business stakeholders and other finance team members to support the accounting and reporting process Leverage financial, business, and accounting knowledge to drive process improvements and create efficiencies Assist internal and external auditors’ requests where required and as directed Support organization changes in an effective and efficient manner Manage special projects, ad-hoc analysis and prepare reports as required What You Bring 3+ years of relevant post-graduate experience, accounting, or other similar corporate finance role (e.g. accounting firm transaction advisory practice). University Degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, Mathematics, or business-related discipline CPA, CBV, CFA or MBA would be an asset Strong knowledge of Excel and the ability to work with and manage large amounts of data Proven ability to communicate financial information to non-finance business partners in a manner that can derive actionable insights Strong problem solving, analytical and strategic thinking skills; can see the "big picture" in a complex business environment Ability to clearly and confidently communicate written/verbal recommendations Highly driven with exceptionally strong work ethic Comfortable in a matrix management structure and ability to interact with Business Unit Operations executives and Corporate functions and the senior executives Ability to clearly and confidently communicate written and verbal recommendations Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in a fast-paced environment with a strong work ethic About Extendicare At Extendicare, we believe that working as a team creates an environment that allows us to reach our potential.
