Senior Electronics Engineer
Reports to: Electrical and Firmware Manager
Position type: Permanent Full-Time
Location: GTA


POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Electronics Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting the electronics driving the organization's medical devices. The position is also involved in all parts of a medical device’s lifecycle.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Design & Development:

  1. Designs general digital and analog electronics including power circuits, conforming to applicable IEC 60601 standards.
  2. Develops and maintains comprehensive design documentation in accordance with quality system requirements.
  3. Participates in all phases of the product development lifecycle.
  4. Designs and develops prototypes for future features and products.
  5. Plans and participates in the execution of safety and performance testing to satisfy applicable standards (e.g., EMC testing according to IEC 60601-1-2).
  6. Actively collaborates with embedded software developers on hardware/firmware integration and test engineering on verification activities (hardware and software).

Sustaining Support:

  1. Maintains existing electronic designs to comply with the latest standards and address component obsolescence.
  2. Supports the production and service teams by assisting with the resolution of technical issues encountered as well as by establishing effective testing and test benches.
  3. Prepares engineering change requests and change orders.
  4. Participates in the design review process.
  5. Interfaces with partners, suppliers, and subcontractors to address technical issues and requirements.
  6. Provides technical leadership to junior team members including co-op students.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer engineering or related field.
  2. 10+ years of practical experience in a regulated industry (medical device industry preferred).
  3. 10+ years of experience with circuit design, schematic capture, and PCB design using ECAD tools (e.g., OrCAD, Altium Designer).
  4. Proven experience with debugging techniques for embedded systems using soldering and common electronics tools (e.g., logic analyzers, microcontroller debuggers, oscilloscopes).
  5. Experience with revision control systems (e.g., Git/Gitlab).

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Strong fundamental knowledge of mixed-signal circuits and multi-layer PCB design.
  2. Strong understanding of complex integrated electro-mechanical systems and embedded software.
  3. Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
  4. Strong organization skills with attention to detail, plus the ability and desire to create maintainable designs.
  5. Knowledge of the following standards: IEC 60601, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304.
  6. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  7. Drive to consistently achieve results, even under tough circumstances.
  8. Holds self and others accountable to meet commitments.
  9. Excellent communication skills (verbal, written) and ability to convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
  10. Ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to meet shared objectives.
  11. Ability to adapt approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Primarily office-related environment with exposure to production work rooms when required.
  2. Some local travel required.
  3. Light lifting and bending.
